Chapter Nineteen

I do some not so sneaky spying

When Noel stepped out of her tent the next morning she immediately tripped over something and fell face first into a snow drift.

“Are you okay?”

Spitting out the snow that had gotten in her mouth, Noel looked up and nearly shoved her head back into the drift. Standing above her, large eye blinking curiously, was a Cyclopes, easily two feet taller than her and holding a large silver tray.

“I – uh – yeah?”

“Oh good! Coffee or tea?” she grinned as Noel stood clumsily, shaking slightly. The Cyclopes was wearing a very bright yellow parka and had dark purple hair done in many small braids, little metal rings and ribbons tied into them.

“Er – tea please?”

“We have lots of it! There’s fig and apple and siderites –”

“Um,” Noel interrupted hesitantly “Do you have plaint mint?”

The Cyclopes nodded and poured her a cup with the steaming drink “Here you go; Gabriel said you’d want mint, but I thought I’d give you a few options.”

Noel nearly dropped her cup in surprise; how had Gabriel known mint was her favourite, that she would choose it? “Could I have a black coffee too please?”

“Sure!” she poured another cup “This is my community service you know.”

Never very good at small talk, Noel merely nodded.

“I stole a Pegasus to go see my boyfriend.” she giggled.

“Do you know where I could find Gabriel?”

She nodded “Oh yeah, he’s chopping ice down by the river I think. Enjoy the tea, see you around!”

“Thanks.” Mumbled Noel, heading towards the woods. Trying her best not to trip on hidden sticks, she almost stumbled right into the boys’ conversation. Ducking behind a tree, barely even realizing what she was doing, Noel prayed for the ability to be stealthy, just once in her life.

“…You should just tell her.” Stephan was saying “You’re her ride back home, it’s not like she can leave or anything.”

“She is not going to take this well.” Gabriel grunted, swinging is axe down on the ice. “You see how she treats Noel.”

“Lola doesn’t like anyone.” Stephan pointed out “Except you, and she’s even a little frosty in your direction now.”

Constantine leaned on his ice pick thoughtfully “I think you should be more worried about telling Noel first.”

“She doesn’t even know what a companion is!” muttered Gabriel “I could tell her and it would just go right over her head. Everything does.”

Noel felt a little hurt at that, but stayed still.

Clearing his throat, Constantine gave them an embarrassed look “She knows what a Niasyn is.”

The other boys stared at him.

“She’s been here less than a day.” Stephan said.

Gabriel ran a hand through his hair “Who told her?”

“Anna, Yvonne…that little Aphrodite gaggle.” Said Constantine miserably.

“Stan!” throwing his axe down Gabriel sat heavily down on a rock, shivering slightly even in his large parka “You were supposed to be watching her.”

“I know, and I’m sorry but she sat at an empty table and they flocked to her! Everyone knows she’s your guest!”

“Right, I know – sorry Stan.”

“Hey, I’m your friend!” Stephan said with excitement “You think the Aphrodite girls would come sit by me?”

Constantine and Gabriel looked at their friend for a moment then burst out laughing. “Sure Ballard.” Said Gabriel and Noel wanted to laugh too. Stephan with his lanky body, tight red curls, pale skin and loud personality (not to mention the grease stains) was a little much for the Aphrodite girls.

Thinking it was a good time to reveal herself, Noel stepped away from the tree. “Morning guys!” she called and they all turned with frightened looks on their faces.

“When did you get here?” asked Constantine suspiciously.

Never having been good at lying, Noel gave Constantine what she hoped was a convincing innocent look “Just now dodo. Don’t worry, I didn’t hear anything. I’m not interested in your chit chat.”

Stephan and Constantine looked convinced, but Gabriel was giving her odd looks.

“Here’s your coffee,” she said, handing it over “I got it from a Cyclopes.”

“Rachel?” asked Stephan “That chick is cool! You know she stole a Pegasus to visit her boyfriend in Michigan or something?”

Constantine rolled his eyes “Yeah right.”

Noel, eyes glittering with the high from her new world, tried not to think of what she’d overheard. For the first time she didn’t want to worry and over think – she just wanted to enjoy.

A/N: So...it's been something like a month...? Yeah, that's my fault. I had a really really busy month at school and I just couldn't take the time to write this specific story. Sorry everyone.

Anyway, question! -------> What is going on, and why are they boys being so secrative?! And it seems like Noel is getting used to her new world; she barely even freaked out when she met Rachel the Pegasus stealing Cyclopes!

Please leave a comment for me guys, I really really enjoy knowing what you think!

Also, I'm going to be doing a video soon for reaching 5k votes and (almost) 600 followers, so leave any questions, inquiries, etc about Underground Angels you can think of!
