Everyone is a liar

‘You are always late, detention for you young lady.’

I rolled my eyes at her and barely gave her a glance as I made my way deeper into the classroom. Hitching my bag higher up my shoulder, I walked towards my seat which was right at the back and next to it seated comfortably was my nerdy bestfriend.

Nerdy.

We are two polar opposites.

He is the white angel of the Heavens while I was the black devil of Hell. Ironic, I know.

Once I sat beside him and dropped the bag on the table somewhat loudly, I felt a piece of paper being pressed onto my arm. I took it without baring him a glance and scanned the messy scrawl quickly before crushing it into a ball.

‘And you are telling me this why?’

‘He’s teaching your Maths Advanced Honour’s class.’

‘Should I be worried?’

‘No but the other girls will.’

My eyebrows raised itself up to the roots of my hair as his words struck home and I turned to look at my bestfriend with a frown, feeling curious. What did that supposed to mean?

He lets out a sigh at my unspoken question and pushed his nerdy glasses further up his nose as he allowed his eyes to roam the notes he had placed in front of him freely. I still have yet to know how in the name of Grohl I managed to be bestfriends with this dude. Maybe I was drunk when I struck up conversation with him.

‘He’s cute and he’s hot,’ he said pouting a little as he slid me a sly look above the rims of his glasses. I was taken aback at the intensity of his gaze. ‘I had his class just now and let me tell you, I wished he wasn’t straight.’

‘You have a boyfriend.’

He rolled his eyes and huffed at me, almost looking at me with exasperation. ‘That is not the point.’ If we were not in class right about now, he would’ve been waving his arms around and shouting at me to get me to understand his meaning.

‘And what is the point Oh Smart One?’

‘You two at the back, will you keep quiet for the rest of the class while I teach?’ the female excuse of a teacher demanded at us almost shrilly making me wince at her sharp voice. ‘You wouldn’t want me to add in more hours to your detention Kiana.’

‘Calm your tits woman,’ I muttered under my breath and grudgingly got the right notes out from my bag before scribbling down the notes that were written on the whiteboard. Once she was satisfied we weren’t going to talk, I turned my head towards my bestfriend.

‘I’m telling you Key, he is hot,’ he said.

‘Arden, you should stitch your dirty mouth,’ I answered him and turned my attention back to the front of the class. ‘If Mike hears you talking about another guy like that he’d-‘

‘He probably won’t do anything,’ Arden cut me swiftly, making me turn back to him with a frown. ‘Mike and I aren’t together anymore. He wants us to be away from each other.’

‘Why?’

He just shrugged.

‘I’m going to kill him.’

‘I was afraid you’d say that,’ he sighed at me. ‘Look doll, I don’t need Mike anymore, he’s pulling me down and drowning me underneath all that bitterness in him. I feel fine actually. In fact, I feel great.’

‘For the love of-will the both of you stop speaking now?! Detention to the both of you!’

‘You’ve got to be kidding me!’

I hate this school.

I hated this school with a passion.

It’s some sort of an institution for students who are geniuses, prodigies, studious and those bookworms type. The Esperanza Institution only admits students with very high scores and you can imagine the students here.

It was horrifying.

I knew it was a bad choice for Dad to send me here but he thought it’d do me good and straighten me out if I was sent to a ‘good’ school with a bunch of ‘do-gooders’. I didn’t try and stop him from doing whatever he wanted.

I mean he’s my Dad.
