“You can’t do this” I told him, stepping out from behind Noah. He took my hand and I squeezed it tightly, lacing our fingers together. Caleb’s eyes shot to our hands and then back to me.
“Him?” he asked, motioning to Noah with his head. I let out a disbelieving chuckle and motioned to Lila, who had been standing beside Caleb all along. “Her” I told him bluntly. He opened his mouth to say something, but before he could even breathe, a gunshot was heard.
I turned to look at Ares who was still on the floor but was now pointing a gun in my direction. I looked down at myself and realized I wasn’t hurt, but then I saw Noah fall to his knees. I let out a gasp and let myself fall beside him.
He fell on his side, resting against me as the wound in his stomach continued to bleed. His black shirt had an even darker patch all around the small hole the bullet had made. It was sticking to his skin, making me think about the blood that must be oozing out of it.
“N-Noah?” I whispered as I caressed his cheek gently.
“I’m okay, Kat” he told me, taking a hold of my hand and lacing his fingers with mine. I placed our intertwined hands over his wound, trying to stop the bleeding.
“Does it hurt?” I asked him as I felt a knot start to form in my throat. “To be honest? A little” he said, letting out a small groan. I nodded and looked back at Ares, who was lying on the floor, breathing deeply with a sick smile on his face. He had thrown the gun to the floor, close to his feet. Caleb was kneeling beside him, holding tightly to his hand, with Lila standing behind him.
“Hold on” I told him as I tried to move him as gently as I could, lying him down on the cold floor “I’ll be right back”
I planted a small kiss on his forehead before I stood up and quickly picked up the gun from the floor. Caleb looked up and looked at me with scared eyes. “This one’s for Elizabeth” I whispered as I shot his stomach, making him let out a pained yell. “This one’s for every single person you took to your show” I said again, shooting at a different area in his stomach, eliciting another scream.
“And this one…” I said, choking on my own words as I pointed to his head “This one’s for Noah”
And then it happened. He was dead.
Caleb was staring at me with a horrified look on his face and Lila was glaring at me with a hate I never imagined she professed me, but I couldn’t find it in myself to care.
I dropped the gun and walked back to Noah, who was still breathing, thankfully. I ran my hand through his hair, hovering over him.
He opened his eyes and gave me a small smile. “I’ll be fine, don’t worry” he whispered and I placed my hand over his wound, trying to stop the bleeding.
“I can’t lose you” I whimpered as I felt the first tear roll down my cheek. I had been holding them in, trying to stay strong, but it didn’t quite work out. “Not you too” I whispered as I started to sob on his chest, holding on tightly to his shirt. I felt his hand land weakly on my back so I looked up at him, staring straight into his bright hazel eyes.
“I like you, Kat” he said softly “I’ve liked you for a while now”
I let out a humorless chuckle and leaned forward, my lips almost brushing against his “I like you too” I whispered, before I kissed him lightly, trying to be careful with him.
“Okay, knock it off. Man with an ambulance coming through!” I heard someone say and I pulled away from Noah to see Lyle running towards us, an ambulance parking right behind him. I couldn’t stop myself from letting out a gleeful sob as I wiped away my tears.
“Hey” he whispered as he stood beside me. Some men dressed in white ran out of the ambulance, carrying a stretcher with them.
“Excuse me, miss” said one of them and I nodded, stepping back to let them do their work. Lyle wrapped his arm around my shoulders, holding me as I cried silently. Noah was staring straight into my eyes and I couldn’t look away. I was hypnotized.
They placed him inside the ambulance and I turned to look at Lyle, who was now standing beside Caleb and Lila. Caleb was still kneeling beside the dead body, and Lila was still glaring at me. I looked back at Lyle and he smiled at me. “Go, I’ll handle things here” he said and I gave him a grateful smile before I jogged over to the ambulance and climbed in, holding Noah’s hand tightly.
