"What are you doing here?" he asked severely, letting go of me abruptly.

I returned his stare before replying, "I'm here for business."

His eyes widened before it narrowed into slits as he sneered. He took a step towards me—forcing me to step backward—before saying, "I don't know and I don't care how you captured my sister's interest, but I'm not tolerating your rudeness. Are we clear?"

My eyes hardened as I stared back. "I can only be kind to others who are kind in return," I said grimly.

He took another step towards me, his eyes glittering in anger. I held my ground not allowing him to intimidate me this time. We stood glaring at each other when a door behind us opened suddenly. We both turned and saw Alexandra come out looking bewildered.

"What are you two doing here?" she asked, closing the door of her study. "William, please escort Andy downstairs. Be a gentleman and get her a drink. She's here as my guest," she added as she walked towards us.

"I'm not..." William trailed off when Alexandra glared at him.

"Take her downstairs and be a gentleman, Willy." Alexandra's voice had a threatening edge to it.

Stone-faced, he took my arm and pulled me towards the stairs. I glanced at him then snickered at his childlike behavior. All of a sudden, he faced me.

I couldn't help myself any longer. "She calls you Willy? That's so cute!" I exclaimed with a chuckle.

He released his grip on my arm, his eyes cold as ice as he threatened me saying, "If you say anything about this, I will ruin your life."

My expression sobered as I gave him a curt nod before walking away. I didn't want to fuel his anger further. I took his threat seriously for once since I knew he would do it without batting an eye.

As I descended the stairs, I stared longingly at the main door. I wanted to leave the party. My interest in the event dissipated after I finished my business with Alexandra. As I turned to go, a hand restrained me. Seeing who it belonged to further made me want to leave.

"Where the heck are you going?" he snapped, his grip tightening on my arm.

I shook his hold off. "I'm going home since my business here is done," I replied as I looked at him in annoyance. Why was he holding me back when he didn't want me around?

"You can't go yet. My sister would think I made you leave," he said as he grabbed my arm again, tugging me towards a hall where soft music resonated.

"I'm not going in there with you. If she thinks you made me leave, then she's damn right!"

He spun around to look at me, his eyes filled with rage. He was about to reply when something behind me caught his attention. Looking back, I saw his sister standing next to a man. He was about six-feet-tall, with dark, wavy hair complemented by his gray suit and black tie. I can take a wild guess and say he's her fiancé. Both of them looked at us with amusement.

"What are you two bickering about?" Alexandra asked as the guy beside her grinned.

We stood unresponsive for a second before I broke the silence. "He was making me leave," I lied, childishly wanting to get him into trouble.

"No, I'm not. You were the one who was adamant about leaving. I was about to offer you some refreshments," he said, looking at his sister. "I was about to get her a drink, but she refused."

Alexandra remained stoic while the man beside her burst into laughter.

"Andy, please allow my stubborn little brother to accompany you tonight," she said, pausing as she looked at her brother. "Please, try to be nice to each other, even if just for tonight. It is our engagement party after all."
