After hours of driving I pulled over to the side of the road. I turned and looked at the small baby in the backseat. Her hair was starting to go a light shade of red and when she opened her eyes and looked at me I noticed the green in them.
I let a small frown curl over my lips and a tear fell down my cheek. I turned and wiped it away and I pulled down my eye shade. I glanced at the reflection in the small mirror and tried to slow my breathing. I had puffy red eyes and my lips were dry. I took out my phone and saw seven missed texts. I opened tham and saw they were all from Justin. I deleted them without reading them then opened up my caller ID list.
I typed in the number I knew and placed the phone up against my ear. It rang once, twice, then three times. A rough voice answered the phone.
"What?" The familiar voice asked.
"Connor." My voice responded shakily.
"Serrina, whats wrong? Why are you crying?" he asked me conderned.
My voice shook as I spoke and tears streamed down my face. "Connor, Im so scared." I whimpered.
"Come over. You know where I am."He said.
I nodded. "Ok. I'm on my way."
He hung up the phone and I placed mine on the passenger seat. It hadd been a month and a half since we spoke but we had always been in contact. Connor had moved closer because I asked him to.
I pulled my car back into gear and pulled back onto the road. It tookj me another two hours to get to his house but once I was there he ran out to my car and wrapped me into a hug.
"What happened." He asked.
I flung open the back door and pulled out Taylor. He smiled and took her from me. After grabbing my bags I followed him inside.
I followed him to a living room. He sat down and placed Taylors carseat beside him. I frowned when he picked her up and smiled, cooing and cuddling her.
Tears began to fall down my face. He looked up and saw me crying.
"Serrina, what happened?" He asked me, placing Taylor over his shouolder. Their hair was almost the same colour. Dark brown with a light shade of red.
I swollowed the lump in my throat and looked at him in the eye. I bit the inside of my cheek and he smiled when Taylor burped.
"She doesnt look like her dad does she?" He said placing her back on his lap and bouncing her.
I shook my head. "She looks more like her dad than you think."
He furrowed his eyebrows. "What do you mean?"
Just then the doorbell rang and he frowned. He stood up and handed me the baby then left the room. I heard him open the door and speak to somebody on the other side. I heard the door close and then Connor walked back in, his face serious.
Somebody followed him in. A person about his hight with a dark blue sweater. He pulled down his hood and took off his sunglasses.
I choked on air and pulled Taylor to my chest squeezing my eyes shut.
Connor spoke up. "What the hell is going on Serrina?" He asked concerned.
"Shes yours." I muttered barley loud enough for myself to hear, but sadly the room was quiet enough to hear a pin drop.
His eyes opened wide and I looked up and saw Justin standing in the doorway, tears falling down his face, and the papers in one hand.
"What does that mean?" Connor said again. Justin took over this time.
"Somebody said they didnt think Taylor was mine so Child Services took a DNA test. They came back negative for me. Positive for you." His voice was barely a whisper by the last line. He spoke up once more. "They said until you say you dont want to be her father she will not be in our custody."
"Thats why I left." I said. "Everything has been taken away from me because I decided to have her, and now that shes here, shes all I have. They cant take my baby away."
"I cant be a dad." Connor said. I looked up and he shook his head. "I can barely take care of myself. How do you expect me to take care of a baby?" He asked.
My body began to shake and I clutched Taylor tighter in my grip. She shifted in my arms and Justin began to walk over.
He lifted her from my arms and placed her back in her seat. I stood up and walked over to him. My arms wrapped around his waist and his circled around my neck pulling me close. Another knock came on the dor and my heart began to race.
Connor nodded to us and walked away, the same way he had just come from.
I looked up at Justin and our lips touched. A tear fell on my cheek and I looked up to see his eyes streaming water. I lifted my hand and wiped them away. Connor walked back into the room, followed by the two women who had been visiting us for the last few weeks.
