Nate's POV:
Okay, so I know I made a deal with the principle about surviving first and second period, but come on! It aint my fault Jake brought me here in the first place… I don’t want us to fight, I was the hostage here, and he can do whatever he wants to me.
Who knew the English teacher was a whisperer! And she can get people to lose their memory, unfortunately, I know better than to think it’s that easy.
Trying to get people to forget certain memories is like taking chocolate chips out of a muffin, if you just take the chip, than a little chocolate will be left, if you take the whole bit out, then you’ll leave a huge black hole in one’s memory.
I know because I tried it on the guy that saw me walking down the hall. My illusion had worn off because of how angry I was, and I was walking down the hall ways like a lost puppy, with the teddy bear I manifested safely tucked under my arm.
“What is a girl as young as you doing in a secondary school?” he asked me.
“Want jaykee!” I whined.
“Jake? I know loads of Jakes…”
Just then, Jake came running down the hallway, and found me sucking my thumb with the boy crouching in front of me.
I didn’t break eye contact with the guy while he sat crouched staring thoughtful into my eyes. His gaze froze me and I found I couldn’t move an inch.
I barely heard Jake clearing his throat, but I still didn’t break eye contact. A finger snapped angrily in front of my face, and me ad unknown school boy both blinked repeatedly.
I started to feel a huge wave of pity, sadness and anger, but it felt like waves before a tsunami. Once it started, it started to grow, and grow, until I was enveloped in the negative emotions. The boy touched my check lightly and I felt it all go away.
When those feeling were gone, he let go, and I felt a warm fuzzy feeling in the pit of my stomach, and it started to grow, until like the last, it enveloped me. This time the boy made no move to touch me. His eye’s simply sparkled in amusement and happiness.
“You’re now free” he whispered, “see ya… untainted soul”
He broke his gaze from mine, but instead of the empty feeling I was expecting, I had a lighter feeling, as if a weight was lifted off my shoulders.
The boy was now looking at Jake, and was telling him something I didn’t hear, because my head was too busy playing with the birds.
“I love birds” I said dreamily.
Jake raised an eyebrow at me. “Really… Cuz last time I checked, you’ve never seen a real bird.
I quickly manifested a sun-conure and grinned cheekily at him.
“I have now”, Jake just scowled playfully at me, our last fight forgotten, and something clicked in that thick head of his.
“So what’s Adler’s power Hu? Seeing as last time you met him you did have… well anything.”
I knew he looked familiar… I just couldn’t put my finger on it. “Do I know you?” I asked in an innocent voice.
Adler chuckled/snorted at me and said, “Yeah… if you figure out who I am, I’ll give you a lolly pop.” I cocked an eyebrow at him, and manifest a cola flavoured lolly pop with a chewing gum in the middle, I took the plastic that covered it off, and started sucking it.
He hung his head in shame and grinned boyishly at me, “point taken”
“Are you a whisperer?” I asked, but knew the answer as soon as the question left my lips. “No… you’re not...” I answered myself almost instantly. Frowned in concentration and searched my mind for any trace of his face, but all I could come up with was a blank.
I thought of reading his mind, but when it came to that, he snapped his fingers in front of my eyes, making me lose concentration and blink, crashing back to reality.
I scowled at him and he narrowed his eyes playfully back.
“My sister may be your protector and that shit, but you’re still not allowed to read my mind. I like to keep my thought private. And just cuz you did that” he continued and started tapping the air as if it was some kind of keyboard “I will now insert a password so only a selected few can enter my thoughts.”
