Unmasking Obsidian Light

36~*~*~*~*~

I woke up Friday morning to an empty bed.  Considering the circumstances, Blake’s parents had let me spend the night again, so we could be together before he left for the mission.  The sheets next to me were cold, so he had been gone for a while.  I sat up and rubbed the sleep from my eyes.

Standing from the bed, I adjusted the large t-shirt and boxers I had worn as pajamas, before leaving the room.  I jogged down the stairs and over to the first floor office, hoping Blake hadn’t already left yet.  Going through the secret entrance, and using my code, I rushed down the hallways over to the main room.

Glancing quickly around the large room, I spotted Blake, already dressed as Obsidian, talking with his dad over by the Bugatti platform.  I made my way over to the two of them, without either one noticing, as they were too deep in their conversation.

“Did you really think you would leave without saying good bye?” I asked, making my presence known.

“Kitty!”  Blake walked over to me and pulled me in for a hug.  “Of course not, I just didn’t want to wake you up.  Do you even realize how cute you look when you sleep?”

“You were watching me while I slept?  Stalker much?” I joked with a smile.

“You were just too beautiful to look away from,” his fingers caught a stray piece of hair that had fallen in front of my face and moved it behind my ear.  His fingers lingered and softly stroked my cheek.

I felt myself blush as his gaze intensified.  He slowly leaned down until our lips met.  He held me close as his lips gently molded with mine.  The kiss was different from our usual hunger filled kisses.  This time it was more emotional and passionate.  I could feel Blake’s love for me pour into the kiss and I responded with just as much emotion.

When we pulled away, Blake nuzzled his nose into my neck and breathed in deeply, trying to take in my scent.  “Blake, be careful,” I whispered into his ear.

He pulled back enough to look into my eye.  “I will.  Try not to worry too much, sweetheart.”  His hand caressed my cheeks, before he pulled my face forward and kissed my forehead.

I gave him a small smile, “I’m afraid I can’t make any promises on that.”

“Blake, you should probably get going,” Trey interrupted us.  With a sigh, Blake nodded before turning his head back to face me.

He gave me an encouraging smile as his thumbs lightly caressed my cheek.  “Stay safe, and be careful with your training.”

“I will.  I love you Blake.”

“I love you, too.  And remember, I’ll be back before you know it.”  He leaned in to kiss me one last time before pulling away completely.

Turning around he spoke some brief words with his father before getting into the car.  Trey and I stood next to each other and watched the car roar to life and speed out of the base.

“He’ll be fine, Kitty,” Trey gave my shoulder a quick pat before turning away and heading back to the house.

I sighed and stared down the runway that Obsidian’s car had just disappeared through.  I sincerely hope Trey was right.  After a few more seconds, I turned around to head back to the house.

The next day all I could really do was lie around my house.  Trey had called off the training session this weekend, since Blake was gone.  I did a small workout just to keep my mind distracted, but that only lasted for about an hour before I got bored.  I tried watching several movies, but never got into any of them enough to keep my interest and ended up turning it off before it ever finished.

I turned it to just regular TV, but didn’t really watch.  I just felt more comfortable with the white noise.  It was at least a little better than just pure silence.

Out of my boredom and strong need for a distraction, I even started cleaning the house.  I vacuumed every room in the house, dusted, washed all the dishes, and cleaned the bathrooms.  The whole house was practically sparkling by the time I was done.  At that point it was just passed 3 in the afternoon.  Still had the rest of the day to do absolutely nothing.

Luckily I realized how hungry I was, and knew that would distract me for another few minutes at least.  I prepared a small, quick meal of homemade mac and cheese.  Scooping a hefty amount into a bowl, I walked back to the living room, where the TV was still playing.
