Chapter 6: Hogwarts, Forever. The Secret Dragon Born Paradise
Alev walked along the hallways of the castle holding her grandfather’s gentle, caring, wrinkled hand. She paid close attention to where they were going, seeing as she had never been to this part of the castle; it was deserted and dark. They were the only two souls that could be found in the castle’s west wing. The walls stretched to the roof that stood about one hundred feet above their heads. Both Albus and Alev felt enchanted and belittled by its magnificent grandeur. Anyone who walked beneath it felt as such, for that matter.
At the end of the corridor stood two tall, magnificent mahogany doors, one of them had a great Hungarian Horntail carved into it and the second had an elegant tree. The details were spot on and were both equally the most amazing carvings that Alev had seen. As the two of them got closer, more details on the outside of the room came in to view: two magnificent stone-carved pillars stood on either side of the doors, two giant brass knockers were hung; they were both lions heads, in their mouths hung large, golden handles. Alev spread her wings, flew up knockers—which also served as door handles—and pulled on one of them; it didn’t budge. She pulled again with all her might and the knocker didn’t budge, still. Puzzled, she hovered a moment and stared at the doorknob, wondering why it wouldn’t open. Alev reflected a few moments, trying to remember that her grandfather taught her about a few special doorknobs. That was when the truth dawned on her; not all doors had to be pulled over. This doorknob was an annulus. You had to grasp the handle and turn it to the left, the latch inside the door would come undone and the door would swing it. That was exactly what it did when Alev turned the heavy brass doorknob.
The surprisingly light mahogany door swung open and revealed a large chamber within it. Its walls were made out of stone, strung with burgundy and gold banners, portraits of Alev’s favourite previous Hogwarts Headmasters, and portraits of previous Dragon Borns, their powers shown flickering in the background. On the far left-hand side of the room was a grand threshold, carved out of white marble. On either side of the threshold stood two humongous Greek columns that supported that section of the ceiling. Beyond the threshold was a large library, the bookshelves stacked to the ceiling with books of all sorts of subjects. A large fire roared in the fireplace and on the mantel sat many moving portraits of the people that Alev held closely to her; there was a portrait of her and her father when she was but a child, the second was one with her and the twins, all three of them made silly faces at the camera and ran in and out of the frame, chasing each other and teasing Alev. The third, with a golden vine frame craved out of an ancient willow tree, held a portrait of her and Grandpa Albus. The fourth picture was that of Alev, Severus, and Grandpa Albus. The last, which hung above the fireplace, was one of Alev, Fred and George—who were playing pranks on a very unimpressed looking Severus—and Albus, who tried to hide a laugh. Alev had to try to hold back a laugh that threatened to burst from her if she slipped.
Strewn across the center of the room were many things, some of which included things from her hobbies—potion making, repairing and tinkering various objects, practice target dummies, magical artifacts from across the ages, some of which included the sword of Goddric Gryffindor, the Diadem of Rowena Ravenclaw, the Sorting Hat, and so on. This included work stations to the back of the room, which held various desks and an old-fashioned type writer, which Alev had always been fascinated with. Towards the center of the room, there were more comfy arm chairs and cherry wood tables and other various fixtures. On the right side of the room, there were two doorways; one lead to her sleeping chambers, the other was a spiral stone staircase that leads to a balcony, which overlooked the Hogwarts grounds.
“Shall we go to your private chambers?” Professor Dumbledore asked his granddaughter.
“I would very much like that, grandpa,” she replied simply.
The duo walked silently over to the wooden door on the left and up the spiraling staircase. As they reached the top, Albus turned to her granddaughter and gave her a silk bandana. “Cover your eyes, Alev. I should very much like this part to be the biggest surprise of all.”
