My Life as a Walter Boy [Sequel to MLWTWB]

1 year later

I took a deep breath. Next to me, Jackie scooped up my hand and gave it a squeeze before her fingers settled perfectly into mine.

We couldn’t have asked for a better day. The sun was shinning down, but there was just enough breeze to keep all 150 guests cool and make the grass in our backyard wave back and forth.

The minister cleared his throat and I broke out into a smile, knowing what his next words would be. “You may now kiss the bride,” he exclaimed lifting up both of his hands. Everyone pushed away from their seats and cheered.

Isaac pulled Brook into a deep kiss and she wrapped her arms around his neck.

Turning my head to the left, I looked down the front row of chairs—set up by Danny and I earlier in the day—to see my family applauding my cousin and Brook.

Jackie was beaming as she clapped for the newly weds. The sight of her smile made my heart leap and I pulled her into a hug.

“What was that for?” she laughed as she fastened her arms around my waist and looked up at me.

“Just so you know that I love you,” I said softly brushing my lips over her ear.

“I’m pretty sure Jackie knows that, Cole,” Alex teased. “You’re just about the most whipped guy in the world.”

I shot my brother a look, but otherwise ignored his comment. It didn’t matter how much the guys teased me. The past year I spent with Jackie was the best year of my life and nothing could ruin that. Jackie wasn't just some girl; she was the girl.

Who knew that me, Cole Walter, could turn into some sappy Shakespeare mush?  As cliché as it sounded, I would follow Jackie to the ends of the earth and back. If that made me whipped, then so be it. I was the happiest whipped guy in the world—with the possible exception of Isaac at the moment—and I didn’t care who knew. I loved Jackie Howard.

“Alex!” Heather said, playfully smacking him on the shoulder. “Behave yourself.”

Alex hung his head jokingly. “Sorry dear,” he apologized before kissing her on the forehead.

Nathan leaned past me to look at Alex. “Now who’s whipped?” he asked with a smile on his face.

Jackie, who had ignored Alex’s comment, rested her head on my shoulder. “I love you too, Cole.” Her words were the best thing I could ever hear, and I sighed in content.

Isaac and Brook finally broke apart from their kiss.

The minister’s voice rang out over the crowd once more. “It is my pleasure to introduce everyone to Mr. and Mrs. Isaac Walter!”

Isaac pumped his fist up into the air. “Heck yeah!” he shouted happily. The newly made Mrs. Walter elbowed her husband in the side to the crowds roaring laughter.

I couldn’t hear her over the cheer of my family, but I watched Brook mouth to Isaac, “Behave yourself.”

Smiling, he did exactly the opposite. Jackie giggled as he made Brook climb onto his back and the pair made their way back down the aisle piggy back style. Dana, Brook’s maid of honor, and Danny, Isaac’s best man, followed down after them.

“Can you imagine how crazy their kids are going to be?” Jackie asked as Isaac danced down the aisle with Brook still on his back.

“Oh God,” I exclaimed in horror. “I don’t even want to think about it.” A Isaac Brook hybrid? That would be an annoying nightmare from hell.

Alex shrugged his shoulders. “It couldn’t be that bad. Mom had to deal with twelve of us and she’s fine.”

“Speak for yourself,” Lee said shaking his head back and forth. “You’ve never had to babysit Will and Hailey’s little monsters. I’m never having kids after that.”

“Eww,” Benny said scrunching up his nose. “Who’d want to have kids with you?”

We all started to file out of our seats. I laughed and Lee joking pushed Benny down the aisle.
