Blood Bites
I was the one who found her. Crumpled and crushed in the far right corner. I crept up to her dainty little body and used my hand to sweep away the hair in her eyes. Her usually bright green eyes that had looked so full of life, were now black and glassy. They were disgusting and dead. I whipped my head around, scared to look any longer afraid that if i looked any longer my eyes would turn the same as hers.
I felt her pulse a million times telling myself “she's alive she's alive” , but in my heart I knew she wasn't . My hand skittered across her body searching for the cause of her death . And there on her neck I saw it . Two small puncture marks and a single scratch that still continuously bleed. I placed my hand upon the scratch in an attempt to stop the blood but instead let the blood rush over my hand. I shook my head trying to banish the memories that I knew would haunt me. I sniffled and whipped my face with my hand, I felt the blood start to cake onto my hands and face but I didn't mind all that I cared about now was mom. I sighed deeply and wiped what was left of the blood onto my night gown. The stench was unbarring in that room.
The disgusting smell of stale blood lingered around the corpse. I just wanted to leave the room, turn and never come back but I knew I had to stay with mom no matter what happened.
I wept as I reached for the phone and silently punched in 9-1-1 . I told the officer every detail except for the marks on her neck. He didnt need to know they would find out soon enough. The officer used his most soothing voice and told me it was alright someone would be there soon. But I knew it wasn't alright at all.I clasped the phone to my chest as I heard the muffled sound of the officer. I brought it back to my mouth and grew with rage.
This man didn't care about what was happening he was just doing his job! I clenched the phone firmly and brought it shakily back up to my ear. “Shut up! “ I screamed. “I don't need you, you don't even care!” In a crazed daze I snapped the phone in my hand and rolled the pieces of debris between my fingers. “Arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhh” I bellowed as I flung the phone across the room. It smashes into the wall and crumbled to the ground. I stared at it and screamed. I just sat there. I pulled my knees closer to my body and fell to the ground. I rolled myself up and rocked myself back and forth. mumbling about my mom saying “I love you” over and over.
Finally I snapped back into reality and looked back to my mom,
I shuffled my small body back to my mom and hugged her even though she was gone. I stroked her long flowing hair but my fingers kept creeping back to the marks on her neck . I jumped as my fingers felt a loose cold chain.
My fingers danced over it for a few moments. I fingered it and went down and grasped the pendant in my left hand with the other I fumbled with the small lock. The lock finally cracked open. I lifted the diminutive necklace to my face . The little black stones in the circle pendant seemed to glow a deep burgundy in the twilight moon. I leaned back against the wall and burst into to tears. “Why did she have to die” I thought as I cried. I fiddled with my blonde hair and braided it in a single braid down the side. As I braided I sang a song I remembered my mother singing to me. It was about a bird and meadows I think, I never was quite sure she had never told me. And now I could never find out. Abruptly the room door swung open I scrambled to shove the necklace in my nightgown. At the door stood my dad. His eyes were blood red and his mouth was even more so.
But I didn't think anything of it I just cried and screamed at him telling him mom was gone. He looked at me and nodded with no expression on his face, not even a hint of sadness. I could feel the anger stiring up inside of me. "DAD she's dead!" I screamed . He slowly came over to me and grasped my arm yanking up. I yelped in pain as my arm stretched out of its socket. " Daddy she's dead what are you doing?" I yelled, tears streaming down my face now. He put his rough hand over my mouth to muffle my cries . I punched him in the stomach over and over again with my puny hands . Nothing would make him stop. He quickly dragged me down the stairs to the garage letting my head hit each step as if in attempt to knock me out. Finally we reached the garage but then tried to shove me in our small grey corolla. "DADDY !” I screamed! Kicking him as hard as my petite legs could handle as he shoved me inside.
