Past, Present, and Future

        "Richard Nielsen, we now pronouce you guilty on all charges." At that moment, I heard my mother burst into tears and squeeze my hand. Everything felt so disorienting and I felt like I was spinning. People yelling, crying ,and moving all different ways. I saw the prosecuter smile in satisfaction and I saw the defense attorney frown and talk to my father. As they took my father away I saw him look at me. His eyes were unreadable, just completely blank. "Daddy! Daddy!" I heard myself say. "Daddy! Daddy!" Over and over those words echoed in my mind. "Daddy! Daddy!"

Suddenly, I felt someone shaking me violently and saying my own name "Carlie! Carlie!" When I opened my eyes I saw the unmistakeable pink hair \hat belong to my stepsister Elizabeth who was sitting right in front of me on my bed in my room. She had a worried look on her face and so did my mother and stepfather who were standing by the door. The three of them looked like they had gotten out of bed in a hurry

     "Carlie, are you okay?" Elizabeth asked. I looked at her and my parents again. Okay I thought this could go two ways. One I could tell my mother that I'm still having nightmares about my father's trial that occured only seven years ago, have her think I'm crazy, and take me to that creepy therapist on 8th and Brennan. Or, I could say I'm fine. Yeah, I'll just go with the second choice.

    "Yeah I'm fine. " I said. "I just saw this horror movie a couple days ago and there was a girl who's father was a serial killer so, I guess I was her in my dream..." I trailed off.

   "You see Caroline, it was just a scary movie." My stepfather, Matt, said. "Nothing to worry about." My mother looked slightly convinced, but Elizabeth looked at me in such a way that I knew that she knew I was lying.

   "Well," my mom came up and hugged me. "If you still need anything just call us." With that she and Matt lefted. Leaving, Elizabeth and I alone.

   "Are you sure you're okay Carlie?" Elizabeth asked again. She knew that I had not seen a horror movie when we went to movies a couple days ago, but she was probably too tired to argue.

  "Yes, Elizabeth I'm SURE." ,I said firmly trying to look and sound convincing.

   "Okay." Elizabeth said as she got up to leave but before she did, she said. "You know you can tell me anything right?" I nodded in response and she left. When she did, I got up, closed my door, and went over to my nightstand. Inside was an old crumbled picture that I'd once found in my mother's closet. It was of my father, my mother, and I in central park, days before my world had changed.....
