I shuddered as I thought back to a few hours ago. Welsh's body had been found in the maze totally brutalized. He had been obviously tortured before he had been killed and then stuffed into black trash bags. Wolfe had warned me before we got there, but I had ignored him and followed him outside. Now I wish I hadn't. When we had gotten outside, Welsh's body was being brought in and I could still see his haunted, glassy eyes looking up at nothing. At Frederick's orders, the whole place was on lock down until whoever was responsible was found. Nobody in, Nobody out.
I step out of the shower and wrap a towel clumsily around me as I stare at my reflection in the mirror. I had dark circles under my eyes and I was super pale. I looked horrible.
Sighing to myself, I dress quickly wanting to join Wolfe and Marcus in the other room as they explained to Jerry what was going on. It wasn't safe to keep him in the dark about anything. There was a killer out there with an unknown agenda.
"No, Frederick is HEAD alpha. Meaning he's at the top- top. You know what I mean?" I hear Marcus trying to explain just as I walk out.
All three heads turn my way, but I can't even muster up a smile as I make my way to Wolfe's side. He was sitting on our bed, and his arms automatically go around me as I snuggle up next to him. Marcus is standig by the door, and Jerry is sitting on the chair to our right.
"This is too fucking complicated.....okay so let me get this straight...there are "packs" everywhere? And in each city there is a city alpha, and then a state alpha for each state....and then what??" Jerry rakes a hand through his hair in frustration.
"Look that doesn't even matter right now. What we're trying to tell you is that Frederick has ordered the lock down and until he says so, we're all stuck here." Wolfe tells him, as he rubs my right arm.
"And Frederick is the state alpha?" Jerry asks.
"Head." Marcus, Wolfe and I all say at the same time.
He gives us a blank look before shaking his head in defeat and saying, "Whatever. So it's up to him to find out who killed that guy, right? And after he does we're good to go? We can go back?"
That was a good question, I look up at Wolfe to see what he's going to say.
"Well, if it turns out that the person responsible for killing him is also responsible for trying to kill you....then yeah. We'd all be cleared." He answers.
"Let's stop beating around the bush. It was Eleina, who else?" I state. She wanted to frame Wolfe for....well who knows for what. Maybe she thought that If I believed that Wolfe had attacked Jerry that I would leave him or something. She obviously drugged Marcus, and then killed her father for beating her? Okay so it didn't make much sense, but there was no one else.
"It wasn't her." Marcus frowns at me as he speaks.
"There is no one else, Marcus. " I tell him.
"Who is Eleina?" Jerry asks.
"She is obviously involved, but I don't really think it was her behind everything. " Wolfe says from next to me. We all ignore Jerry's question.
"Who drugged Marcus? Eleina. Who killed Welsh? Eleina. " I shrug. It was pretty obvious.
"Who beat Eleina?" Marcus shoots at me.
"Welsh, before he was killed?" I suggest.
"Welsh had been dead for atleast two weeks. It's impossible." Wolfe surprises me by saying. I had not known that.
"What? How do you know?" I ask. I shudder as Welsh's empty stare crosses my mind once again.
"His body was decomposing already, didn't you see?" Marcus answers me.
God no. I had barely glanced at his bloody face and then quickly turned my head away. The whole room is silent for a few minutes as we all think about the situation around us.
"Alright. Whatever. I'm hungry, i'm going to go get a bite." Jerry gets up and walks towards the door.
"I don't think you should be going anywhere by yourself right now." Wolfe says.
"I can take care of myself." Jerry scoffs.
"Actually, I could use a bite too." I admit. At the mention of food my stomach had grumbled in protest.
"Let's all go then." Marcus suggests, already following Jerry out.
"I'll just change then." I pull away from Wolfe and start looking for some jeans to wear. I was wearing a black sleeveless shirt with gray yoga pants.
