PASSING THE TEST

I wrote my words in sand but the waves removed all trace,

Now I fear I'll never see that smile upon your face.

I wrote my words in air and to the ground they fail  like leaves,

dancing around your feet and getting crushed beneath.

I wrote my words in stone  too heavy to give to you ,

so  I abandon the attempt and began my task anew.

I want to tell you something,  I need to tell you everything

I need to find a way to say  what I have to say.

My heart will never rest  if I don't pass this test ,

and tell you how  I feel  so you know  my love is real.

I wrote my words  in  light so that you might see,

but you never looked  that way and they vanished quickly .

I wrote my words in snow  but the spring sun warmed  the day ,

and all my loving words melted  and faded away .

I'll never reach your heart with my written  words,

so I whisper " I love you" and your smile tells me you heard.

I want to tell you something, I need to tell you everything,

I need to find a way to say what I have to say .

My heart will never rest if I don't pass this test ,

and tell you how I feel  so you know my love is real .

My heart has no unrest because I passed this test,

And told you how I feel And you know my love is real.
