"So did you meet your new neighbor yet?"

I groaned and picked my head back up from the table. My cereal was getting soggier by the minute. I clutched the handle of the spoon, wanting more than anything to crawl back into bed. After my very exciting experience last night, I had gotten just a few winks before the demon-possessed thing of an alarm clock woke me up school.

Before I could answer, footsteps came down the stairs. I quickly shoved some of the Lucky Charms in my mouth so I would have an excuse not to talk to Marie. She came down the stairs and entered the kitchen, dressed in a maroon pantsuit and nude heels.

Dad and her shared a long kiss, to which I made a disgusted face and stared at the ceiling. I heard my father chuckle. Marie opened the cabinets, searching for the coffee beans. It's like all the adults in the world couldn't deal without caffeine. Haven't they ever heard of sleep? Which I'll point out again, I didn't get much of last night.

"Genevieve, I asked you a question." Dad said sternly. I pushed my glasses up higher in my nose, choking down the tasteless cereal. Marie took a seat across from me on the kitchen island, tapping away on her phone.

"Yes." I mumbled, throwing in another spoonful of cereal. Swallowing, I said, "Last night."

"Nice boy, isn't he? Marie, didn't you say he lived alone? Strange." he said, pouring some coffee into a cup that had a picture of a mustache on it. He reached over and handed it to Marie, who took it from him with a grateful smile.

"Yes. I suppose the boy doesn't have a family. Poor thing. Just imagine, Henry, living in that big house all alone. Even worse, he doesn't have any pets. But I suppose that's his choice. What did you say his name was?" Marie asked, her icy blue eyes trailing over to me. I looked at my father, who raised his eyebrows to indicate that this was a chance to talk to his beloved wife. I suppressed a roll of the eyes.

"Scar."

"What a strange name."

"I know, Marie."

"I think you should invite him over sometime." she suggested politely.

Yeah right!

I mentally gagged and stood up, throwing my empty bowl in the sink. I didn't respond to Marie. I still hadn't told anyone about what happened last night, and truth be told I was scared to. Scar seemed like an intimidating, rude guy who liked to keep secrets. I wasn't sure how he would react if my father came over and started asking all sorts of questions because I had ratted him out. And I really didn't want to find out.

I grabbed my bookbag, which had a picture of the Ninja Turtles printed on. It was childish, but still cute. I said goodbye to Dad and Marie, and then walked out the door. The sky was an ominous gray. I calculated my chances of arriving to school before the clouds broke, and then decided to make a run for it. The school wasn't very far away from my house.

I walked all the way, continuously glancing up at the sky. I wasn't really in the mood to get wet at 7 in the morning, although it might be a nice wake up call. Luckily, I managed to barely step foot into the brick building before the heavens opened up and released their pee.

People in the parking lot instantly scattered, taking shelter under the numerous roofs of the sections of the school. Heatherridge High was like any other school. We had a fairly large auditorium, a couple libraries, and rooms with teachers that make you want to stab yourself.
