I lept onto the rooftops once more, surveying the early morning sun of Konoha and the lush green forests.
"Goodbye, Konoha," I murmured to the bustling village, "Hello dangerous quest...."
I whispered, "Transportation Jutsu!"
The jutsu used a substantial amount of my chakra supply, but efficiently carried me a few hundred miles, where a dark forests teeming with mysterious creatures lay. I landed lightly on my feet and unstrapped the sword that was nestled in the sheath on my back, holding it in a defensive position.
There wasn't a single rustle in the thorny bushes that surrounded my location, nor the sound of a monster sliding in the treetops. I tentitavely took a few steps forward, ninja instincts advising me watch my back, still brandishing the ANBU blade, using chakra to cast a dim light in the forest.
As quiet as possible, I snatched a coil of iron wire from my pack and wrapped it around the tree, creating a temporary rope that I could use to climb to safety and peace, nestled in the crook of an ancient tree.
I had barely grasped the rope and had begun climbing when a swift whooshing sound swept through the silence immediately.
I quickly grabbed a explosive tag, attached it to an obsidian kunai and threw it in the direction of the sound.
Sparks shot out of the kunai as it flew through through the air, finally exploding as it lodged in the trunk of a tree, causing a small earthquake in the area, a few trees collapsing to the ground.
A figure shot out of the danger zone and gracefully landed in front of me, only yards away.
"Why, tricky as usual, Ryoku," A woman in her late teens bared her lips in a nasty smile, drawing a silver katana from its place on her leather weapons belt.
I snarled at the mention of my former clan's name, the subject had not been brought up in years, being the last time it was mentioned, the results were not pretty.
"It's Sana now, Sana Hashi, I have nothing to do with that, that, clan anymore...."
The woman gave a simpering look of innocence, "Oh, sweetie, can't you be a little kind to your older sister? Show some respect!"
She lashed out with her deadly silver weapon, nearly slashing me across the chest with her arc of destruction.
I managed to dodge the larger degree of the attack, but not without the ruby-encrusted hilt striking me on my shoulder, leaving behind a purple bruise that stung with dull pain.
Shit, this is what I get for not bringing my ANBU armor, I thought
I attempted to distract her, gritting my teeth in concentration, "You're not my sister anymore, I robbed you of that title when I turned my back on the clan!"
"Exactly, you little traitor," My older sister Rena seethed, "Always the talented one in the clan, you selfishly threw away the trust of the Damashis for that, that village! Ryoku, you had the powers, you who are not the eldest born of the family, you were spoiled and given everything you ever wanted! You had responsibilites to the clan, you were responsible for making sure the ability stayed in our bloodline. You left us to rot, left us to fall back from glory, all for your own benefit! This is exactly why I accepted the job to annihilate you, the job to destroy the worthless traitor of the clan!"
I was shocked beyond belief. My older sister was jealous of me?
"Rena," I struggled to keep my voice steady as I spoke, "You have no clue what it was like for me. The responsibilites, were all too much to handle for a young girl. I was so pressured, scared of all the attention, while you watched from the side, everyone ignoring the older sister of the prodigy. In truth, I always envied you, you who was left alone, spared of all the responsibilites. I promise you, Rena, you did not want to be me...."
Rena was the one who seemed a bit off-balance after my monologue, but regained her hate and anger.
"No, Ryoku, you're the one I've always felt contempt for. Now, I have my moment of triumph, the final moment of glory! I will destroy you!!
"Rena," I pleaded, watching as my sister's eyes turned a deep bloodred, her normal incisors elongating into black-tipped fangs of death, "Why are you doing this?"
"For revenge!" Her normal proud voice was slowly changing into the hiss of a snake, a terrible sound.
She pressed her palms together in one of the feared hand signs of the clan, ivory horns growing out of her dark hair and scales appearing on her skin...
