On April 20, 1999 two violent boys set bombs to explode in their own cafeteria. (Columbine Highschool)The bombs did not go off, so the boys went outside and started shooting students eating their lunch. They moved inside and shot a few people in the cafeteria, then the hallway and finally where most of the shooting happened, the library. The schools softball coach ran from classroom to classroom warning students and teachers. He was shot in the back 4 times. 12 students and 1 teacher were killed that day.
One of their first targets was 17 year old Rachel Joy Scott. Could you imagine sitting there eating, enjoying one of the first warm days then your shot?! Rachel was kind and almost had a way of predicting her future. When she was 11 she told her parents she would die young. In 1998 she said she would die in the next year. Days before the incident Rachel drew a picture in her diary of a single rose with 13 drops of blood falling from it. A teacher told her it was pretty. Rachel said, "It's not finished yet". Rachel never got to finish her drawing.
While Rachel was being killed her brother was in the library with his two best friends. He thought those dreaded shots were firecrackers. A minute later a teacher ran in and picked up the phone called 911 and yelled at the students to get under the desks. The gunmen came in and started shooting. They walked over to Rachel's brother and his friends both of his friends were killed. The men got confused by an alarm and walked off. When he found out Rachel had died he felt guilty. "The last meeting I had with her I slammed a car door in her face." He recalls.
I had the pleasure of seeing her brother. He talked about how guilty he felt and what it was like in the library. Everyone was crying. I am bad with names so dont hate on me for that!
