Chapter 1

Ashley Rivera

The cold wind hit my cheeks as I hurried my way over to the Wednestol Coffee shop. Pulling my jacket together, I entered the shop and the first person I see is George. Well, he was the last person I wanted to see. My first instinct was to turn around and go but I thought better of it. The coffee shop wasn’t exactly a private place and so what if it actually belonged to his father?

He wouldn’t really cut me off from getting coffee’s now would he? Putting my chin up I walk past him toward the counter and order myself a cup of plain coffee and chocolate croissant. I am not really a big fan of chocolates but it’s the only thing on this earth that can calm me down.

“Ashley?”

I bit my lip, trying to remove the irritated expression from my face when I turn around and face George. “Hi”, I smiled, sarcastically.

“I didn’t expect to see you here”, he said, drinking in my features.

I rolled my eyes, “It’s a public place isn’t it?”

He frowned, “Yes. Of course”.

“Then why wouldn’t you expect to see me here?” I crossed my arms and raised an eyebrow.

“Er—because of me. Because of us?” he said, sounding confused.

I sighed, unfolding my arms, “Do I look like I care?”

“No”, he admitted, looking hurt. “Actually you don’t but I still do”.

“Please, don’t start—“

“Ma’am your coffee and croissant”, the lady at the counter said.

I paid her and grabbed my order, ready to leave when George stopped me.

“I have to talk to you!”

“But I don’t want to!” I snapped, angrily.

“Why are you like this? I said sorry a hundred times”.

But I just walked past him and went out of the coffee shop. Only he didn’t stay there like I thought he would. Instead he came out and grabbed my arm, turning me around.

“You have to tell me what the problem is. I can’t go on thinking that the reason you broke up with me is because I cheated on you, when I didn’t”.

I pulled my arm from his, “You want to know the truth? I hate Leah and anyone who befriends her!”

He looked like me skeptically, “That was the reason for breaking up with me?”

“Yes. You should be over it by now. It’s been a whole month!”

He smiled, bitterly as he said, “I can’t believe how selfish you are. All you think about is yourself. No wonder you’re friendless. Believe me when I say this—you aren’t exactly going to get anywhere with that attitude”.

It stung so hard but I just put my chin up and said, “At least this attitude helped me dump you. It’s my business what happens to me—not yours. I’ve got to go, my coffee’s getting cold talking to you!”

Before he could utter another word, I turned around and walked off. The cold wind hit my face as I walked toward my house. At least that helped me control my tears. People could be so mean sometimes; I never really understood them which were one of the reasons why I never exactly have friends. The ones I’ve had betrayed me and the guy I ever loved cheated on me which ended up making me turn into this angry girl who never gave shit to anyone.

I barged in my own home, shutting the door behind me with a loud bang. My mother ran out of the kitchen thinking a burglar has entered.

“Mom, burglars’ don’t inform when they are going to steal”, I informed, taking off my jacket since the heater was on.

“Honey, I’m just worried”, She said, seriously.

I smiled, grabbing my order and heading upstairs. I wasn’t in the mood to explain anything. I entered my room which was not a girl’s room. It was a plain white walled room, with a double bed in between and a four-door wardrobe on the side and a balcony on the other side. I did have a dressing table too and it did consist of make-up which I mostly never use. My room was neat since I always made sure to clean it every day. I hated untidiness; it was another thing I could never bear. I dropped the croissant on the bed and kept the coffee on the small drawer next to my bed. I took my laptop and switched it on.

One of the things I loved doing was writing. It helps me calm down and plus, it was one of my ways of keeping a good part of me alive which I could never really express to anyone. I was currently writing a story called ‘Ice cream love’. Sounds cheesy but true love can happen anywhere and anytime. I usually upload my story on this site called Wattpad which is an e-book community. People from all around the world post stories, read stories, leave comments & feedback. I was pretty happy when Ice cream love received a positive response. It had definitely made my day and well, encouraged me to write more. I clicked open my story and continued writing my second chapter where the girl finally meets the boy.
