St Flornetina’s Academy, is a school that doesn't exist, as far as mortals are concerned, but to a race of immortal, winged creatures of the night, St Florentina’s boarding school for magical and academic development is very real. A prestigious school especially reserved for royalty, the rich and famous and the extremely gifted and talented of the faery race.

The faeries that walk the world, invisible to the human eye, are not like most of the myths and legends. These faeries are in possession of magical, elemental powers, as well as super human speed, strength and senses, these faeries are able to disguise themselves as humans. They replace their devastatingly beautiful hair that seems to glow and reflect bright shades even in complete darkness, for dull, lifeless colours in comparison. They exchange their perfect, sharp features and ears that come to a discernible point for a flawed mortal impression. They trade shimmering skin that looks as if it were inlaid with microscopic diamonds and their super model-esque figures, for human appearances, with human blemishes and imperfections. The only way to distinguish a faery from a human while they are wearing a vex is their; unmistakable, bright, wide, sparkling, faery eyes, which are coloured according to their birth element. These human masks are known as a vex or more formally, vexillum meaning 'the standard' in Latin.

The magic that these faeries can control is derived from the elements, fire, water, air and earth. Some can also control another force, divinity, this is a very rare magic that still hides many secrets but some of the known abilities of a divinity user are that they can bring animals, plants and people back from the dead, use extremely strong coercion (a form of mind control) to make people do their bidding, and they send illusions that they can shape, into others minds, whether they be human or otherwise. Divinity users’ magic, if used too much will eventually drive them completely insane.

However, there is a lost element, darkness. It is said that the first five Kings and Queens of the elements were challenged by an evil power wanting to seize control, so they extinguished it and all others who were born into its inescapable clutches, thereby ridding the world of darkness’ threat.

Each faery can only specialise in one element. You are born with the power of that element however it is hard to tell what element you specialise in before the age of 12.
When you have specialised in an element you are able to for example, create fire, grow plants from nothing but the ground, move and freeze water, or create cyclones. All faeries can use the power of coercion to some extent but in divinity users it is almost impossible to resist their coercion. Though most faeries are not skilled enough or trained well enough to control their powers to that extent. They are taught in school how to control their element in separate classes.

The faery world is governed by a monarchy, a seelie or ‘blessed’ court, where a king or queen is democratically elected from the five royal families, Arcos, descendants of the first King of Air, De Luca, descendants of the first Queen of Divinity, Mintori, Descendants of the first Queen of Water, Braise, descendants of the first King of Fire and Antonov, descendants of the first King of Earth.
The current Queen, Queen Anarora Arcos, is aging despite her faery immortality, and people are starting to doubt her ability to rule. The lack of faith the people are starting to show towards the Queen is beginning to take its toll. The Queen has employed a royal advisor Rhett Bekslov – a man held in high esteem by the people – to regain their favour.
But Advisor Bekslov is hiding a terrible secret. A secret that could change everything...
