Chapter 27

•The Snap We've Been Waiting For•

"Carlisle," said Bella, thundering down the stairs.

"Yes, Bella?" he replied. He was sitting on the couch with his wife, Esme. He had an arm around her and they were staring blankly at a television program on the "supposed sightings of the supernatural vampires."

"I'm sick of this. Please give me an answer. What have my parents been told?" she demanded.

"They...they've been told by Billy that you're staying with him and Jacob for a bit, just for a break from home. They're fine with it. They understand you need time for you," said Carlisle.

"Well, when I never come back they're going to know something is wrong," said Bella point-blankly.

"You're staying with them for a month. You've got about two weeks left. We're hoping you'll be a little more stable by then. I will let you talk to them on the phone and explain that you've turned into something beyond their understanding. Their knowing will harm you and them. This exact dialogue hasn't been approved yet, we're still working out kinks." Carlisle looked at Bella with his usual, warm smile.

"Well, I suppose that'll do. Is there any way for me to see them, again?" asked Bella. She sat down on a chair. Bella had been working on developing her human traits so she could start blending in, soon. Vampires could sit still forever. Humans cannot. Bella must learn to act imperfect.

"In a few years, you'll be fit to go out in public. We must be sure that you are safe to be around multiple humans without there being the slightest break of you feeling the need to eat someone or else," said Carlisle, moving his fingers of the arm around Esme, playing with her hair, a human characteristic.

"Oh... I was hoping that if I can learn to control my thirst quicker..." she trailed off. We all knew what she hoped. She wanted to see her family and friends within the next month.

"No, Bella. Even if you can, we still can't risk it for a few years. Better safe than sorry," said Esme, joining the conversation. She crossed her legs and put a hand up towards Carlisle's. Very human-like.

"Oh fine..." she grumbled. She began to ascend the stairs when Carlisle called back to her.

"Bella, you do know that once you want to go to school, again, we need to move? Everyone here will recognize you." He looked at her simpathetically as her face fell.

"Oh... I-I didn't think of that..." Depression overcame her expression.

"I'm sorry, Bella, but it must be done. There is absolutley no other option for you. That is, if you want to go to school and be in public in the next seventy or eighty years... I really do apologize, Bella," he said.

Suddenly, something inside Bella just snapped. There goes Carlisle again with his utter sympathy and simplistic nice attitude. He's a vampire! He should be far from nice and sympathetic!

"What is with you?" gasped Bella in anger seeming to cause her height to rise by twenty feet.

"Excuse me?" asked Carlisle, slowly standing up in front of his wife.

"Okay, doctor," began Bella, rolling her eyes and obviously adding venom to the word doctor, "I think you need to live up to your species title a little better! You can be a veggitarian and everything, I'm cool with that, but stop being so innocent! It's ridiculous!" she exclaimed. Edward had drifted to the top of the staircase, silently listening to the arguement.

"But Bella, I'm far from innocent," he said in a quiet, calm tone. He kept his distance from her. Jasper slowly moved into the doorway to the kitchen to protect the heat from getting worse. They all knew this was coming.

"DON'T you say that! So you've killed a few men, that's your job in the food chain, it's no big deal!" yelled Bella. Rosalie and Alice stood behind Jasper now, ready to watch the action. This event has been expected...

"Bella, I have brought multiple people into eternal damnation! They're in living hell! That's far from innocent! I've turned amazing people into evil vampires!" Carlisle was provoking her, just the right amount though. Too much could end badly. Too little could result in postponing the event. What event? The snap of a newborn! It is generally right after the burning. When their anger overwhelms them along with their thirst that they practically explode. Bella didn't begin it after the burning, though, so the family is trying to manipulate it-twist and turn- the schedule so it only last a few days at its weakest point. They WANT Bella to snap.

"BAH! NO!" She launched herself at Carlisle. Jasper jumped out and caught her from the back. The unseen Emmett snatched her from the sides. Esme stood infront of her with Carlisle.

"Bella, honey, you'll be over this in a few days...hopefully. For now, Jasper and Emmett will take care of you. Let them know if you get thirsty and they'll have Edward bring you something," said Esme, still keeping her distance from the growling monstrosity across the room.

Bella was kicking and punching and attempting to bite her captors. "CARLISLE, YOU-" Emmett clamped a hand over her mouth.

"Now you don't mean that, do you? Or at least you won't in a few days." Emmett smiled and they dragged Bella upstairs to a room.

"Rosalie," began Esme, "could you whistle out to Jacob to let him know it's happened? He's hunting west of here on the grounds." Rosalie nodded. "Thank you." Rosalie flipped her curls and turned to walk out to the porch. "Alice, could you ring Billy and let him know, too? The tribe should probably know..." Alice made a noise of agreement and flipped a cell from her pocket.

"Do you think this will work?" asked Esme.

"We may only hope it does..." mumbled Carlisle. "I wish to get her back to normal quickly..."

And Edward remained at the top of the stairs, looking down upon the scene before him, hoping Bella would return to normal as fast as Carlisle wished.

You can only seduce a person when they're sain.
