She wakes inside her dream
Swept mind, content to know
She had control of something in her life.
Outside, she's bound by circumstance
Unmastered by her will, but here,
Inside this misty realm, she's lithe
And lovely still.
Here in this quiet place she dreamed
Her guards are lifelong friends,
Though here they speak in silent trumps,
Assurance, peace and joy.
The pain that haunts her waking world
Is barred in every way, not sullying
The quiet lake where pen
And cygnets play.
The cob patrols, she's of his flock
He's soldier strong and lightning quick.
Within this holy, healing place,
He'd give his life for her.
But time is short here, life moves on.
The earth rotates and sleep is gone.
It's well she rested as she has,
For with the dawn comes new resolve
To live, not just endure.
