Knowing Your Real Soul Mate

 Chapter One

Tattered, Broken, Shattered to pieces, Left Behind, and Never to be seen again. These words were popping in my head over and over. My relationship with Luke ended just a week ago. We were dating for three years before he just decided that we weren’t “right” for each other anymore.

“Tara, I need to tell you something.” Luke said sounding worried.

“Anything.” He walked in front of me and put his hands on my shoulders. Those piercing blue eyes could hold me forever. Maybe he’s finally going to propose. Under the clear night sky, not a cloud in sight, it felt like the perfect moment. My hands were shaking, as if it was below zero outside.  My feet wobbled from left to right on the dry concrete. We’re both 19, but I didn’t care, Luke was my soul mate, I knew it for sure.

“I’m sorry Tara, our relationship has been a really good one, but I don’t think we’re right for each other anymore. I think we should see other people.”

“Excuse me? You- Your breaking up with me?” My heart began to sink into my ribcage. It’s now colliding throughout all the emotions that lie in my stomach. He kissed me on the forehead and walked away without another word. I couldn’t move, couldn’t breathe. My legs turned to Jell-O and fell out from under me. I sat there on my knees, trying to figure out what I did wrong. As if the gods were watching the whole mess, clouds began to form and it started to pour. The sadness draped over me like a heavy blanket that I hated. I started whimpering and heaving.

Wiping away the tears, I came back to reality. My blank document on my computer was staring back at me. I couldn’t manage to type anything for my English report. I let out a heavy sigh and minimized Microsoft Word. My stomach churned when the picture of Luke and I holding hands stared at me. Why? Why did I have to fall in love with a boy with blond hair and beautiful blue, blue eyes? And that chizeled tanned body of his? I let out a grumble and switched my background to a beautiful sparrow. It was soaring with its long black wide wings. I wish I could be that bird; to fly away from this awful life. I rested my hand on my face and clicked on the internet explorer icon. My fingers typed in the words, Soul Mate. When I heard a knock on my door I clicked a random website, bookmarked it, and closed the laptop.

“Yo, Tara, Can I come in? You’re not stuffing your face with Ben and Jerry’s are you?” Jessie said outside the door. She was my only roommate, and my only friend, well besides her boyfriend. She has short straight dark brown hair with Carmel colored skin. We met when we were both 16. I had joined the track team, and she was the only person who would take to me. We soon became the best of friends.

“Yeah, you can come in. And no, Ben and Jerry are not in my mouth.” She opened the door and stepped in.

“That’s what she said.” She giggled and waked over next to me.

“You are so immature.”

“So what, G. thinks I’m funny.”

“G. Is your boyfriend, he’s supposed to think you’re funny.”

“Whatever. So what were you doing on your laptop?” She sat down in the seat next to mine.

“English assignment.”

“Why? It’s Spring Break! Have fun! Meet some guy. Hell, make out with them!”

“Jessie! Luke just broke up with me.”

“Luke, Puke. And so what, he moved on to Carol.”

“He did what?” I stood up and looked at her in complete shock.

“Oh, I guess you didn’t hear. Yea, he started dating Carol the day after he broke up with you.” She looked away then looked back at me. My chest burned and ached like never before. I sat on my bed and stared at the purple rug beneath me. “No. I didn’t know. How could he do something like that?”

“Because, he’s a jerk Tara! Did you really think that you two were going to be together forever?”

“No.” I lied.

“Well I think you should get out of this small room and go out.”

“I don’t know Jessie. I think I’d rather just work on my assignment.”

“Fine, but don’t say I never tried to help you. Well its eight, I got to go.”

“You have a date with G?”

“Yeah, I’ll see you by like ten ok?”

“Okay.” And like that, she was gone. I slowly got up and went back to the tab I bookmarked. I clicked it open and started to read.
