Addicted to Meth

We all looked up at Kyle, his hand still outstretched from the shot, standing behind Ethan’s chair as he shot me a look.

“It’s from you know who.”

Keegan…

“Voldamort?” Ethan joked but Kyle was anything but laughs.

“I gotta go,” he grumbled, walking off with Ethan trailing behind him.

“Thanks Kyle,” I shouted after him.

He turned around and I flashed him a smile but he was clearly unimpressed.

Wasn’t he in a bad mood?

I stared down at the ball of paper unsure when the two of them were out of the classroom and then turned to Elena.

She raised an eyebrow; “It’s just paper Hale, it won’t bite.”

I unfolded the sheet; very sure it wasn’t Keegan who did the crumpling of it and read what it said.

“Well?” My best friend asked when I was done scanning the words; “What does it say?”

“It says ‘meet me at the back of the Economics building’,” I told her; “It doesn’t say when though.”

Elena shook her head in disbelief; “Well obviously he means now.”

I frowned at her; “What about class?”

“Wouldn’t it be better to apologise now rather than later? Ignoring him again would make things worse.”

I nodded. She was right, as usual.

“So what are you waiting for?”

I got off my chair and grabbed my bag; “Thanks Elena.”

She smirked at me and I rushed out of the room just as the bell rang.

I crossed the yard and rounded out to the back of the buildings. I didn’t have Economics but I was pretty sure it was the last of the buildings in the school. The trees all around we bare and despite it being almost nine in the morning, the sun was yet to rise out from behind the mountains in the distance.

I slowed down when I spotted Keegan; at least I thought it was him. He was seated on a metal bench right in front of the school boundary with his back towards me, his face lowered past his shoulders and out of view.

Who else would it be? Paranoid much?

Keegan straightened when he heard the crunch of leaves as I got closer but he didn’t turn around. My heart rate increased as I prepared on what to say but my mind came up empty. Stupid brain, it had more malfunctions than an old DVD player.

I sat down on the very cold bench and immediately shuffled on it.

“You came,” I heard him mumble but he didn’t look up at me.

Wasn’t he ever gonna greet me? I smiled at the thought.

Keegan looked up at that moment to see me smile and the next thing I knew he was kissing me. His hand cupped my cheek pulling me closer as I kissed him back. His skin was surprisingly warm despite leaving goose-bumps all over my skin.

He pulled away leaving me breathless and my mind completely and utterly scrambled. So much for giving any sort of speech. He frowned at me.

“I’m sorry,” Keegan sighed, “I shouldn’t have made you-”

I covered his mouth with my palm before he could finish his sentence and he seemed to mumble on in protest till he suddenly stopped. His breath tickled my pinkie.

“I’m sorry too,” I smiled; “If you don’t wanna meet my dad that’s fine. I’m sorry for being such a baby about it and ignoring and for… well anything else.”

I was over the moon that he’d tried to apologise especially because I was so sure I was in the wrong. He did care for me, it was as clear as sky.

“Besides,” I smirked at him; “Apologies are so not your thing.”

Keegan seemed unconvinced though; “So you’re really okay?”

What did it matter if he wasn’t ready to meet my dad?

“As long as I’m forgiven?”

He nodded.

“Then were okay,” I concluded and he smiled.

That’s when it had dawned on me.

Keegan and I had just kissed on school property and who knew who was looking! People kissed and made out in the school all the time, but no one knew about us yet and what if a student saw, or worse, a teacher?

I covered my mouth with my hands; “Keegan, you kissed me!”

He seemed amused by that; “You realised that now?”

I thumped him on his chest; “Not funny! What if someone saw us?”

He shrugged, getting off the bench and then extended a hand to me; “I doubt it. No one comes back here anymore.”

I took his hand and I was on my feet again. He started pulling me towards the fence, a dead end, and I glanced back to the way I’d come.
