"Did you know sir, then?'

Did I know I'd just met the most dangerous dark wizard of all time? No."

Chapter 10

We went on like that for hours, occasionally bumping into someone.

Every time that would happen, Tom would refuse to let it slide and would begin yelling and insulting the poor victim, who's eyes would bulge and hurriedly scurry away after apologizing repeatedly.

The tingles of electricity never left me as our palms rested against each other, and wondered if he felt anything too.

Yet just as easily as I began to hope, I would push the lunatic thought out of my head.

We had been walking in unison for what I estimated to be half and hour now, and I wasn't really the "yay! Exercise!" type of teenager.

"Blimey! We've been walking for ages now and my feet are killing me!" I complained and instantly regretted the words.

I didn't want to give him the satisfaction of out-walking me, giving him another reason to think he was better than me. I secretly wished I could take back those words and replace them with something like "Yes! I could go on for miles!"

But even a wizard couldn't perform miracles.

"Stop complaining or your feet won't be the only thing killing you. We're just about there anyway..." He murmured the last part to himself as he scrutinized our surroundings, calculating how much more we had to go.

We were now nearing a black wrought-iron gate ten feet tall, cowering and looming over the small village and its inhabitants.

Tom's hand left mine, causing an unusual feeling to creep it's way into my heart. Disappointment?

I was just about to open my mouth and speak when Tom's next uncalled action stopped me. He walked over to me, so close our noses almost touched. I involuntarily froze, my heart-rate suspiciously climbing over the average rate.

He stared straight into my eyes as he reached his arm around the air surrounding my waist, his piercing gaze meeting my vulnerable one. His fresh breath of mint wafted into my nose as his hands found what they had wanted.

He smirked as he took my bag that had been slung onto my shoulders and opened it up, taking out his terrifying wand and backing up away from me.

As I realized what he had done, the familiar feeling of heat rushed up to my cheeks. He continued to smirk at me a few seconds longer as humiliation met embarrassment. He had done that on purpose!

Then a question formed in my head.

"How did that even get in there?!"

"Well if you haven't noticed, you're incredibly oblivious and unobservant." He implied as he turned away from me and contorted his face from a cocky smirk to deep concentration as he performed the incantation.

"Alohamora." He said fluently, and the thick jumble of heavy chains quickly clicked and unlocked themselves.

He easily pushed the gates open, revealing a beautiful scenery.

"Here we are." He announced bluntly, obviously not taking in the lovely view.

Endless rows and rows of perfectly kept, blood-red roses and well-blossomed daisies adorned the ground. Orchards were easily visible even from my location, a swirl of sweet aromas filled the air, complementing the view.

A steady stream of peaceful and clear water poured from a white-marble fountain, standing in the center of it all, and behind it, was one of the largest mansions I had ever laid eyes upon.

White-stoned bricks lined up against each other carefully while pure ivy clashed against them purposefully. Figures and shapes of art were chiseled into the sparkly stone accurately. The sun seemed to take a liking the mansion too, because it appeared to have all of its bright rays fixated upon the gigantic building, giving it the full spotlight.

I forced myself to tear my eyes away, and looked up incredulously at Tom to ask him why we were here when his expression stopped me.

His jaw was clenched so tight the veins in his pale neck popped out. His mouth was pressed into a thin line as something I had never before seen burned deeply in his clear green eyes, almost convincing me they were on fire. His expression was entirely foreign to his cocky and arrogant personality.
