My Greek love story x

"Cool. So then we both agree that Spanish is awesome. You know much?"

"Err no... I said I like it, never said anything about actually knowing how to speak it."  He gave a short laugh and smile at me again. That perfect smile. Ugh! Why is he wasting his time on me? I’m nothing special.

"Ah, yeah it’s not easy but it’s my first language so I could teach you if you want?"

"Huh, I’m pretty sure you'd be wasting your time with me. I’m a lost cause when it comes to learning languages. I really don’t recommend myself as a student."

"Ah c’mon! You can’t be that bad. No. I don’t believe you. Sólo tiene la práctica" he smiled.

"Translate?" I smiled sheepishly.

"You just need practice. Believe me, Greek is a lot harder than Spanish. Five years in this place and I’m still no-where near fluent."

"Yeah I guess it would be... I’ve heard people speak it around here... you know what? I’ll take your word for it. I won’t go anywhere near it."

"Yeah, I’m actually recommending that!’’

"OK. Great then...so what’s it’s been like-' He cut me off.

"-Living here compared to Spain? Yeah I get that a lot. There isn’t much difference to be honest."

"Oh. Cool, I wa-"

"HEADS!!" someone shouts out of nowhere. Suddenly, a beach ball comes flying in our direction and lands right between us. I let out a yelp but thankfully not the usual embarrassing scream I’d get when frightened like that. Soon, a tall, slim tanned girl comes jogging down after it. She was really pretty too. With blond hair plaited to her side. She picks up the ball and just before she goes, she spots Cam. 

"Hey! Cam! What are you doing here?" her smile genuine as she looked at him.

"Hi. Am just having a chat with my friend here." he said, pointing in my direction. The girls smile somewhat faded a bit when she looked at me.

"Oh, hi." was all she said to me. Before I could respond, she turned back to Cam.

"Am would you like to play some volleyball with us?" she asked as she pointed towards the group of other teenagers at the volleyball court.

Cam turned to see who was there and someone waved to him and he waved back. Well, this was it, of course he'll go with miss tall and hot here and forget all about the short Irish girl who he was talking to.

"Am...sorry Adrianne, I cant just leave. Maybe some other time." and he smiled his usual smile at her.  Well that took me by surprise. This lad really did have it all didn’t he?

But Adrianne wouldn’t let him get away that fast. "Well I’m sure she could come too. I mean. If she wants too..?"

Obviously she wasn’t too happy about inviting me too but she was that desperate. Cam looked at me and I could see the question in his expression, he didn’t need to speak.

"Err... I don’t know… I don’t want to be any trouble or anything...”

"Ah, don’t worry about it! Come on, will introduce you to everyone". And, once again, he was holding out his hand to me, and of course I took it. I pulled my shorts back on and walked after them.

 The group of five other people at the volleyball court all smiled at me as we approached. There were a few hellos and hi's before cam spoke again.

"Hey guys, this is my new friend Cherrie. She’s Irish!"

Apparently the people here take a lot of interest in foreigners. After about ten minutes of questions and answers, they finally decided to play a game...Oh God... I braced myself for more fumigation. How do I keep managing to end up in these types of situations? Where I find myself at a great disadvantage... in this case, I totally suck at sports. I remember trying out for the soccer team at school. Total disaster. As I couldn’t run fast enough and somehow managed to kick the ball in my win goal. Not a time I want to remember. Hopefully I wasn’t that bad at volley.

"Go!" shouted Maine, one of the girls I’d come to know. I liked Maine. She’s been very tall and had long black hair reaching down to her hips. Pretty too with her cat-like features. I was put on her team along with Cam and another lad, Alex. On the other team were Adrianne, and her supposed best friend, Christina and the other two guys, Andrew and Basil.
