Elena's POV
After our last class we walked out to my car to talk for a few before we had to go home
I leaned against and pulled Gabriella a little closer to me
"You don't have to go home yet, do you?" I asked looking at her hoping she didn't I wanted to spend some more time with her, get to know her better than just the few things I do, from what I've heard around school
"Not until five o'clock"
"Okay, good." I smiled at her
"mhm" she smiled back then looked around then down and back up at me
"What is it Hun?" I asked playing with her fingers. Playing with peoples fingers when you held their hand was somewhat entertaining oddly.
"My best friend is coming." Why did it sound like that made her sad?
"Who? Mary?" I asked
"Yeah" She nodded
She let go of my hand when Mary got closer
"hey bestie." Gabriella said
"hello, best friend." Mary replied
'Don't be rude Elena introduce yourself!' My mother's voice echoed in my ears, I hated how she could do that
"Hi, I'm Elena." I held out my hand
Mary grabbed it shaking it
"I'm Mary, Gabriella's best friend. I've heard about you" out of the corner of my eye it looked like Gabriella was blushing I giggled in my head and grabbed Gabriella's hand again
"Well, anyway Gabby, we're heading down to Mr. Scoops to get some ice cream." Mary said
"Okay."
"Your mom needs your help tonight." Mary stated
"It is his birthday in four days."
"Do you need any help?" Mary asked before I could.
"Actually, I'll call you if I do." She said quickly
"Okay, I'll be around" Mary said
"Okay."
They hugged and Mary left. Yeah that wasn't a little awkward at all.
"I got to go help my mom" Gabriella said after a second
"you need a ride?" I asked looking at her with a small smile
"that'll be lovely." She said
I opened the car door for her and then went around to my side getting in and starting it.
"So, you have any sisters or brothers?" she asked as we pulled out of the parking lot
"Yes, One brother and one sister, twins actually. Chase and Casey are 5 and a half." I said
"I always wanted a younger sister." She looked away
"And you only have a brother?" I asked she sounded sad
"yeah, I'm the youngest, my dad died when I was eleven…" she said
"that must be hard." I felt bad I didn't know what it was like to lose a parent.
"I miss him at times…" she looked down at her hands as we pulled up to her house I only knew where she lived because I saw her outside when I was dropping June off one night.
I looked at her she looked like she was on the verge of tears, I grabbed her hand and squeezed it trying to be comforting "Just think of me" yeah that wasn't really the right thing to say but it's all I could think of at the moment.
