My Thoughts On Wattpad...
Hey everyone, E.J. here.
I just felt like posting this because its something I feel I need to talk about. Don't worry, its not one of those plagiarism freak-outs, because I really hate them. Nah, this is a little post on what I think of the running, operation and general condition of Wattpad these days.
I'm really starting to get pissed with the whole What's Hot list. I mean, yeah, it's a nice idea, but recently I've seen a few faults in it.
First off, am I the only one who's noticed that just about all the stories on the What's Hot list are basically the same? I mean, heck, what the hell happened to the real creative writing?! All that's up there now is stories about pregnant teen girls, falling for your brother's best buddy and well, lets face it, everything up there has sex in it. And believe me, that's not a bad thing at all. It's the stuff that teen girls wanna read about and enjoy, right?
But here's where I get pissed off most. The whole What's Hot list is turning into a popularity competition and gauge, am I right? Sure, the people who are up there, most of them deserve it because their stories rock socks. But have you noticed that all the same people are up there, and they could have multiple stories up there too?
Now, I know. The people on the What's Hot list cant help it, they're great writers, they deserve every bit of praise they get because most of them do care about their fans. But who I'm really talking to are the people who read the stories on Wattpad and the What's Hot list. Have you been surfing around, looking for the writers who don't get recognised as much as everyone else? Because I've read stories that are far more detailed and longer than those on the What's Hot list (no offence intended).
So, have you? Or is the What's Hot list the limit for you? And if you've been reading other stories other than those on the list, have you been voting and praising just as much as you have been on the stories you read on the What's Hot list?
There's the glitch. Don't think I cant see that thoughtful look on your face that slowly but surely turns guilty because you've realized that you haven't been supporting those other writers as much as you have with those on the list.
And I know, I know. You all are probably checking how long I've been on Wattpad and the stories I've written and saying "What the fuck do you know? You've only been on Wattpad a little while! Darn punk, don't know what she's talking about! And what sort of a name is E.J. anyway.......?!"
And so on.
But I've been on Wattpad for AGES but I haven't had a profile, because I didn't want to share my stories with other people. Because to be honest, I only became a serious writer because of personal matters that started a few years ago. Before that, I just scribble ideas and scenes in my little copy book, and aced English and almost got a children's book published. Yeah, I failed big time. Second place sucks.
So, I have a teeny tiny request for all you people and readers out there in Wattpad-land. Have a look around. See and read different stories, help people, give people advice, vote for people who need it. Maybe even do what I do and search a random topic for kicks, it's the best way to find amazing stories without the effort of sifting though the thousands on here.
And I also have something else to say; SHARE! That's the only way people are gonna find stories that you and other people created! I'm not encouraging that you go around begging people to read your stories, because I hate that (it'd be okay if they at least took an interest in your stories, and actually became your fan first). But you know, tell people about the great story you read if you think that its their cup of tea. Tell them the name of the writer.
I know its very annoying, me going on like this. And yes, I am bossy. But this needs to be solved or at least helped in some way. So, the next time you read a story, please remember to do these things;
1. Find something original that you may not have heard of before.
2.Take into account the use of language skills and writing style.
3. If you think the writer needs to notice and improve on something, tell them (in a nice way).
4. Put a nice comment there, even if you didn't like it. Remember, it's the thought that counts.
5. Vote if you like it, don't just read and move on.
6. Become that persons fan, everyone needs more fans and it's a real pick-me-up to find that another person likes you.
