Chapter 1
My name is Nick Perez and all my life I've been living a secret. I can't tell anyone not even my most trustworthy friend. But, there is one person I can always tell, the Lord, my Heavenly Father. That's where my story begins. My parents were missionaries so I grew up living in places people dreamed of going to, Brazil, Egypt, Thailand, and Canada! Haha just kidding I've never been to Canada but I have been to the other countries and many more. Thailand is probably the country that has impacted my life the most. I was 13, can you imagine taking an annoying, dorky, awkward teenager across the world? My parents never thought of stuff like that, the "negatives". They always pictured it being a never ending family vacation, the fights, the apologies, and the "positives" of the future. Ok so in Thailand we were telling orphans about God and how Jesus died on the cross to save our lives and all the other bible stories you hear in Sunday school. There was one kid who sat in the back and his eyes were locked on my parents telling the story never moved, and never took his eyes off my parents. Me and him became best friends and one day he told me that he was going to run to his Uncle's house and tell him about the story he heard today (Jesus rising from the dead). And he did just that as soon as they were dismissed to leave he bolted out the door. The next day the boy's uncle came to talk to my parents after the class. I didnt really know what they were talking about but I heard a lot of yelling through the door. The next day was a day off from teaching the kids so we took our motorcycles and drove through the country sight seeing and other stuff we stopped in this green pasture with hills and a couple of trees it was one of the most beautiful places I've ever seen, and in the blink of an eye it would become the scariest place on earth. I barely remember it. The attack, the beating, the screaming. The last thing I remember is my mom crying and screaming,"PLEASE DON'T KILL MY SON!!!!!''.
