Chapter Twenty-One

Will’s lips twitched into a half smile leaving Turner to wonder what it was the man dreamed of. He hoped it was dreams of him that were the cause of Will’s happiness because Will was every bit the cause of his own.

Turner had never thought he would be happy again. He had never dreamed that he would find a man he could love as much as he had loved Peter--but Will was that man.

Beaux whimpered at the door and Turner sighed. It was morning and no doubt the poor hound was desperate to go out and run. Turner knew that today was going to be a busy day with many things to get done.

For three days Turner and Will had remained locked in this cabin. Turner had left each day only long enough to get wood and feed the animals before coming straight back to this man and this bed. They had talked, laughed, made love and slept curled around one another. Turner had even opened up more about Peter, finding that it was a bit easier to do with Will in his life.

But today that peaceful haven they’d been hiding inside had to come to an end--at least for now. Today Turner had to check his traps, take them down and prepare for the long trek down the mountain and through Fugate’s Pass and into Trinity. In Trinity they could send word to Turner’s brother, Christopher and let him know they were coming back to the ranch.

It would take three to four days to reach Trinity and another week and a half to reach the ranch. It had taken a bit of time but Turner had come to terms with returning there. He knew it may not be easy to once again be in the home he had shared with Peter, and all the memories held within those wall, but he could fill it with new memories of him and Will together.

Turner wasn’t looking forward to making the journey in the January cold but it was no longer safe to keep Will here on this mountain so close to Caudilltown. The snow was melting quickly and it would only be a matter of time before Thompson or his men came up here looking for Will.

While Turner knew that he was more than capable of taking those men in a fair fight, he doubted that Thompson would fight fairly and Will didn’t need that added worry and stress. It was better to leave before it came to that and let Thompson find someone else to fixate on. Turner didn’t believe that Thompson would chase them into Trinity. That town was large and had plenty of real law--Thompson’s kind weren’t tolerated in those parts.

With a sigh, Turner ran his knuckles down Will’s bare arm, “Will, wake up, honey. We have things to do today.”

Will groaned and snuggled closer to him, “I don’t want to do things today and I like it when you call me honey.”

Turner smiled against Will’s hair, “I’ll call you honey whenever you want but as for the rest of it I’m afraid you won’t get your way. We’ve stayed in this bed long enough.”

Will shook his head and nipped at Turner’s bare chest causing him to growl, “It’ll never be long enough.”

Turner silently agreed but knew he couldn’t give in to what his body wanted just now. There would be plenty of time for having their way with one another once they made their way home to the ranch. He pulled away from Will and sat up, throwing his legs over the side of the bed and rubbing his face, “We’re going to have a busy day getting ready for tomorrow.”

Glancing over his shoulder, Turner saw Will flop onto his back and fold his hands behind his head. The blankets were twisted around him and offered Turner tantalizing glimpses of that tempting lean body and thoroughly lickable skin. Will scratched at his chest as he frowned, “What’s tomorrow?”

Turner stood up and pulled on his long johns and trousers in one quick motion, “We’re leaving. Fugate’s Pass won’t be clear yet but it should at least be passable.”
