(Craig's Point of View)
"Well, I am certainly not dumb! I know there's always been something going on between you two. But that is only true, if you tell me it's true....Is it true Craig?"
I gulped and parted my mouth to reply. Debbie sat on the edge of her seat with a curious, anticipated look. All of a sudden, a loud noise came from upstairs and then yelling. Bryan and Rob's door swung open and out came a stumbling Bryan trying to walk down the stairs. Rob came outside chasing him to steady Bryan. He looked like he just smoked some weed from a bong or something.
The two came down, Bryan mumbling to himself and Rob practically yelling into his ear to stop walking because he was still doped up on sleeping pills. But Bryan continued his hazy stroll into the living room. He saw Debbie and grinned from ear to ear.
"Hey Debbers! How are ya!?" he stuttered. Rob rolled his eyes and let him go. Debbie nervously smiled back at Bryan and stood up to greet him with a careful hug. Luckily, nothing too horrid occurred. I chuckled nervously and stood up.
"Who wants coffee...?"
Bryan ran to the kitchen with me hot on his trail. I began making coffee, then suddenly Debbie and Rob walk inside. Rob took Bryan by the arm and dragged him out while he whined. Debbie stood right next to me, I could feel her stare on my face. I tried to avoid looking at her at all costs. I said that too late.
I sighed and stopped what I was doing, or pretending to do, and faced Debbie.
"Alright. I'll tell you. Do you want the full story, or the short version?"
Debbie signaled the long one, and so I started.
"Well, it all started a few months ago, actually a year ago. Nick and I started flirting for like two days. Then...." I stopped and hesitated to tell her about why he ran off. But I'll have to tell her something. "Nick ran off...and by the next week, he had a boyfriend. That kid you saw at the hospital with me, he's not my friend, he's Nick's boyfriend. We had a party here because Max thought it would cheer me up since I was really depressed about it. It didn't. Nick and Oliver came that night. Nick....we talked, but nothing was really resolved before the accident. And now, he's in the hospital because of me."
I glanced at Debbie for the first time, her face was blank and her eyes were cold. Suddenly, she scooted closer to me with a sly devilish look on her face. What is she up to...?
"I'm quite sorry, Craig. It is most definite that this is not your fault. Accidents tend to happen...And...If I know my son well enough, he'll pick you over that boy! I didn't see a spark in his eyes or anything, and I'm one to usually notice those things," she sighed. "But....your relationship just.....up and started like that?" Debbie asked curiously.
I narrowed my eyes and suck at my teeth. Debbie was becoming quite suspicious "Well.....no. It really first started when Nick played this dare on me where he chained me up and....." I looked at Debbie and stopped myself right there. That's his mom......! "And yeah, he just chained me up blind folded....he never told me who dared him, but he never really completed what he was after...." I said awkwardly, not admitting what Nick was planned to do. "Then it started after that."
Debbie's eyes widened and she put her hand to her heart.
"Goodness no! This is all my fault!!!!!" Debbie cried. I nearly jumped back in shock, my arms sprang forward involuntarily.
"What are you talking about!?"
Debbie put her hand to her heart and sat down on one of the kitchen stools by the island. She took a deep breath before running her pale white hands over her young features. The way she practically tugged at her short brown and cropped hair looked as if in aggravation. She glanced up at me and patted the seat next to her. Her fingers drummed against the smooth marble surface, a tell-tell sign that she was nervous.
