CHAPTER 1
The door banged open with a loud crash as it rammed into the wall. My sister came sprinting in, her bag falling to the floor and her books slamming against the cold, hardwood floors. She continued t osprint towards me, her arms wrapping around my slender waist and her tear-stained face resting on my shoulder.
"What heppened, Liv?" I asked, frightened at what could bring me strong sister to tears. Olivia always had strength, rarely ever crying. But now she was sobbing and shaking violently.
She tried to choke out a couple words, but kept returning to muffled sobs. I lead her over to the plump couch and waited for her to calm down. She sat on my lap, her head resting on my shoulder and her neck buried in my neck. We stayed like that for a good hour, just sitting, me allowing her tears to stain my shirt.
After a while, she was calm enough to sputter out a complete sentence.
"J-J-Jeremy broke u-up with m-me" she whispered, just loud enough for me t ohear. And those 5 words was all it took to set me off.
"HE DID WHAT?!" I yelled, pushing Olivia off me and sprinting to the door. How dare that ass do that?! I started putting my jacket on, nearly ripping the soft fabric.
"No, no, no! What the hell do you think you're doing?!" Liv frantically spit out. She jumped up from her spot and quickly stood guard in front of the door.
"I'm going to go kick that dick in the ass! Where else would I be going?!" I sadi in a 'duh' tone.
"No you're not! I don't want you going up to him! I don't want him knowing I'm heartbroken! It will only humiliate me more!" she screeched with silent tears escaping her darkened eyes. I stood in front of her with my arms crossed, as I stared her down.
"Well we can't let him get away with it! That's pretty much worse! What do you want me to do?! Because I'm sure as hell not sitting around while you bawl your eyes out!" I countered back. I was furious at him, and her yelling at me wasn't helping my rage.
"I don't know, but I definitely don't want you doing that!" she replied, her voice finally lowering to a more inside voice. I dropped my arms and pulled her into another hug.
"I'm sorry, Liv. I didn't mean to yell at you. But that jackass got me worked up. It really pains me to see you so hurt and vulnerable. I can't stand it. Don't worry, lil sis. I will think od some sort of revenge." I told her calmly, and lightly stroked her hair.
"Thanks, Ali. I don't know what I would do or how I would survive without you." Liv whispered, giving me a comfortable and warm squeeze.
"So, do you want me to whip you up some hot coco?" I asked gently.
"Sure!" she enthusiastically said in her usual chirpy voice. I pulled her into the kitchen by her small hand and set to work making two, creamy hot chocolates.
"What did you do today Ali?" Liv wondered, getting the conversation going.
"Nothing much. Just tidied around here and there, wrote a couple more chapters. Some small things." I listed. I've been staying home all week, helping around the house instead of our mom. She's been stuck in bed, unable to move. I've tried to take her to the local hospital, but every time we reach the door, she freaks out and starts to struggle, making it impossible to escape the house. So we just keep her at home, give her the necessary medicine for pain and symptoms, but have no idea what has caused our strong mother to break down.
"How's mom?" she asked in a soft whisper. Our mom's sickness has hit Liv the hardest. She was so much closer to mom then dad and I, and when dad left, she only got closer to us. And now that mom is practically immobilised and pretty much a coma, it's as if she's gone as well.
"She's getting worse. She can't stay awake as long as last week. She's sleeping most of the day and I have to wake her up just to get some food into her. But I have to go to school, Liv. And you absolutely can't miss school!" I quickly added right as her mouth was opening."So I'll go back, and hopefully mom will make it. I'm going to leave her lunchon her bed side table so she can eat it when she wakes up." I explained to her, while handing her the scalding hot coco. I jumped onto the counter and Liv stood between my legs with her back to me. I slowly sipped my drink, the liquid burning my tongue.
