Guide to Wattpad for New Inkies

Here on Wattpad, we do not have swaps and this can very disappointing to some of the new people coming here. For Inkies out there, go ahead and swap with each other, but the other people on Wattpad won’t understand what a swap is, so don’t try to get them into it. On this site, we write whatever we like: scripts, guides to doing things, interviews and stories (of course). There is no pressure to comment and review another writer’s story here if they comment on yours. Read whatever you want and comment whenever you want. No pressure.

Critique: When you really want to give an honest critique to someone who is outside of the inkpop community, it is better to ask the writer—after reading their profile—if it is alright with them if you give an honest critique. Even after you critique their story they still might get offended. You haven’t done anything wrong and neither have they. They just didn’t understand that you would be saying anything negative about their story. Just the other day I gave a girl an honest critique, trying to muddle through the mess of words she had made. In return, she sent me a very angry message and then deleted her account. That type of reaction can make you feel that you were too harsh. Don't believe it.

The reply button works on Wattpad, by the way.

On your profile there are something called fans. Whenever you as a writer update a story or start a new one, your fans will get a notification that you updated. So you don’t have to go to their individual pages and tell them you have updated. You can also fan people to receive messages and updates on stories.

Message Board: Also on your profile is the message board, you can talk to people, send private messages or broadcast to your fans a message or that you have uploaded with an author’s note in the message. What you do if you want all your fans to see you have said something, you click the “broadcast to fans” button under your message (before you send it) and every one of your fans will receive it.

For the about me on your profile: you only have a certain amount of characters to use. Your profiles can’t be as long as they were on Inkpop. So being short and to the point is key. You can also set a status as to what you are doing.

Chat: there is something called chat on here, where you don't have to keep messaging on eachothers walls. You se that bar that probably says "Share Page"? if you go to the right, sliding across the bar you will see "___ Online". you click that and it will give you a list of people you can chat with, but only the people online.

Reading List/ Library: by adding a story to your reading list/library it will not help increase your rank in the genre of your book or theirs. It is a way for people to keep track of books they liked and read or ones they plan to read later on. This is also a way for people to notice that book and would technically help increase their popularity.

Covers: When you upload a cover for Wattpad, it should be size 256x400

Dedicating a Chapter: You can dedicate a chapter to someone if you want to. If you open up your chapter that you want to dedicate to someone, you press the heart that says dedicate underneath it. Simple as that!

Popularity As A Writer: If you are trying to figure out how to get your story more out there then check out XxSkater2Girl16xX and analyze why she is so famous here on Wattpad.

Things like making friends, starting club/forum threads, commenting on other peoples stories can really help you get a wider fanbase. If you want to really reach out, then write stories in many different genres!

Here are some published authors you can check out on Wattpad (just to name a few):
