Some of my poems I write as I sit and enjoy a drink . This could be at a cafe or at home. Those from my cafe days, they have the number I was given for the order. This one is Number 30 from a city cafe called Shingle Inn. The date I have forgotten but I think it was January, 2013
This collection will be about the theme of sharing between two people.
A Memory
A Pot of tea,
A pink lamington.*
A big red chair.
A table of wood,
polished with care.
Me and a memory,
of you.
I push my hair from my face
and stare, thinking how strange is this--
A chocolate pink lamington square
pink as pink lemonade.
I cut this treat in half
As we would always share
our treats to defeat
the over weight nightmare.
You and I, we would talk
about this and that as sisters do
when sharing a family meal.,
even one so small.
Our conversation would start with happy
childhood joys and how we loved our toys.
and what our children now do.
I place a piece in my mouth
and let it melt there
pushing away those feelings of guilt
to remember you.
I close my eyes and see
us both, alike in many ways.
We finally speak now of how
lucky you were to be checked
and treated straight away.
How now we see that test saved you
and now soon we will meet again
Two years now you have added
to your life, to enjoy being who you are.
A survivor of Breast Cancer
is a blessing in itself
as is your grand mother life,
something that I may share
one day with you, if that is
the blessing I be given too.
* Pink Lamingtons are made to raise funds for Breast Cancer. Usually the sponge centre squares are rolled in melted chocolate and then coated in coconut, an Australian treat.
