CHAPTER 42- FOREVER AND EVER?

 The Same Day...
Somewhere in Athens,
Greece

-Thanatos-

A surge of new hope filled me as I saw our Titan allies. Their forces were led by Rhea, Cronus’ own wife.

I saw his shock when he first saw her. He stilled and gazed at her for a long time as if remembering a time long past. Then, his features became filled with fury as he reached for her. She dissolved into fine mist and vanished only to reappear behind him.

“Rhea! Come here, this instant!”

She shook her head. “The time I obeyed you as my husband and king has long passed.”

He clenched his fists and the ground trembled with his rage.

“You dare side with them? You betrayed me once and left me to be imprisoned! Now you still choose them?!”

“They are my children, Cronus. Had you been a loving father to them rather than swallowing them because you feared their power, they would not have overthrown you. They would have been happy that you were king and submitted to you.”

Cronus scoffed. “Fine then. You chose your path, Rhea.”

He snarled and lunged for her again. He grabbed her hand and she glowed until it was too bright to see. When the light dimmed, Cronus was on the floor and her dagger was at his neck.

“I shouldn’t have stopped myself. I didn’t want to hurt you because you were my wife,” he said through clenched teeth.

I felt a wave of his power. Suddenly, the earth split between him and Rhea and then she was falling. I disentangled myself from Aurea’s grasp and jumped high. I spread my wings and then tucked them so I could dive after Rhea.

When she was safe in my arms, I flew upwards.

The time it took for me to save her was all the time Cronus needed to rest and gain more magic. When I placed her back on the ground, Cronus was kneeling and his hand was buried deep into a crevice.

The ground rumbled once more and then several tall spires emerged. His dark magic made the earth pulse and the spires grew until they were almost as tall as the Cyclops that came with Rhea. There was one last heavy pulse of magic and then the spires began to look humanoid.

When Cronus raised his hand, they moved. Like one synchronized army, they turned to gaze at us.

“Shit.” Zeus muttered.

Yes, he was right. We were in deep shit. As far as I could see, there were rock-creatures everywhere. There must be hundreds or maybe even thousands of them!

“Kill them!” Cronus ordered.

Their heads turned towards us and slowly they began to move. When one reached me, I drew the sword that the Titans gave me and swiped it across its chest. The rock-creature crumbled.

“Well, it’s easy to kill after all,” Poseidon commented.

“No! Look.” I pointed at the small rocks and they all saw it began to assemble. In a few seconds, it was back to being the tall rock-creature.
