“How is that different? You lied!” He screamed, his face turned red and it made me think of all the other times he had reamed me out for not hanging out with him when we were younger.
“I didn’t feel like sleeping with you. How about that? Not every girl wants to have sex with you, James!” I said, stepping forward from Niall’s grip and poked him in the chest menacingly with my pointer finger.
He grabbed my finger hard and I let out a whimper. “But you wanted to sleep with me, remember?” He winked, creepily.
“No, let go of my hand!” I said but he tightened his grip around it until Niall smacked it out of his grasp.
I shot Niall a weak smile. “James, just leave. You aren’t welcome here and I’d really hate to call Harry down here to shoo you out.” I smirked, “You know what he did last time.”
James had a look of fear in his eyes as we both recalled Harry beating James with a pot numerous times when he found out James cheated on me. That was a very interesting night. James nodded, “Are you sure you don’t want a real man?”
I let out a chuckle and he looked hurt. Perfect. “Niall is a real man. Way more real than you are. He treats me as an equal. You treat girls like trash.” I stated and pointed towards the door, “Out. NOW.”
He reluctantly left, leaving Niall and I standing together in silence. Niall jammed his hands in his pockets and played around with his keys, like he always does when he’s nervous.
“You’re nervous.” I said, turning to face him. He wouldn’t look at me.
He kept his eyes locked on the door whilst asking, “Does he do that a lot? Come round here whenever he feels like it?”
“No. That’s the first time I’ve talked to him since the beach. Oddly enough, this only happens when you’re here. Which I suppose is a good thing because I’m pretty sure I couldn’t defend myself against him.” I answered truthfully; I wish James would just let me be happy for once.
Niall adverted his glance from the door to me and broke out his famous toothy smile. “Well, since I’m here, don’t you think we should do something fun?” He asked, a full on grin appearing on his face.
“Depends what you had in mind…” I said, unsure of what I was agreeing to.
He grabbed my hand and started running down the hall. Where exactly was he headed? We stopped at my bedroom door, it had a lot of pictures on it. Tons of me with the lads, Eleanor and Danielle, and then with Jaime and Ember. There was the one in the middle that got me the most; it was the picture of Niall and I watching fireworks on the beach. He smirked when he saw it and let go of my hand. He bent down to look closely at it, “I like this one the most.” He mentioned before opening my door.
I stood outside my room wondering what he was doing in there. He was looking for something. He looked under my bed then in my closet before I asked, “What are you doing?”
He threw a sweater out of the way. “Looking for your guitar…”
I threw him a curious look, “Niall, it was sitting on the kitchen table when you walked in…” I started to say but he unveiled an acoustic guitar from my closet with a big red ribbon strapped around it. He held it out for me to take. I looked at it for a minute before realizing he was giving me his favourite guitar. His baby. The one he barely let me use. My mouth was agape and he chuckled, shaking the guitar in front of me, “Take it, Annie.”
I shook my head quickly, “That’s your favourite guitar, Niall. I can’t take it from you.”
He grabbed my arm and placed it in my hands. He crossed his arms in front of his chest before I could give it back to him. “Niall, no! I can’t take it!” I tried to shove it back at him but he wouldn’t have it.
“Yes, you can. I’m giving it to you. You love that guitar!” I stared down at my new guitar. A smile broke on my face and Niall mirrored it.
“Are you sure?” I asked, looking down at it and then at him.
“I’m positive. Besides, look how happy it makes you. I want to see you happy, Annie. That’s all I want.” Ugh, Niall. Why do you have to be so damn good with words? I threw the guitar on my bed and ran into Niall, giving him a huge hug. I wrapped my legs around his torso and he held my waist tightly. “Thank you, Nialler.” I whispered in his ear.
