We went out the school doors and sped off. We stopped in front of what looked like an abandoned warehouse. Jake just nodded encouraging me to go in. Once the door opened I was shocked at what I saw. It was definitely not abandoned. The inside was huge and filled with so many people. There were stair cases in every direction.
“Well, here we are. It’s kind of like our headquarters. We have adult superheroes that teach us how to control and use our powers. This is Mr. Brown; he is like the principal here.”
“Hello. Luna I presume?” I nodded. “Well I’ve heard a lot about you from Jake.” Jake blushed a bit at that.
“Well, it is very nice to meet you.” I said.
“How about I show you around?” Jake offered.
“Sure.”
Then Jake took me down stairs and I saw training rooms. Jake explained that Mr. Brown has been trying his best to keep the superheroes on the right path and not let them fall to Tim’s side.
As we walked past all the training rooms I saw so many kids our age training. Then I thought about these kids and if they went to school. They probably didn’t. Everyone greeted Jake like he was the leader of the heroes. We then walked into the cafeteria. There was a disagreement going on when we walked in.
“Look all I’m saying is maybe Tim had a point. I mean we are looked down upon. I mean no one appreciates us.”
“Stop talking like that Andy what is the deal? Look we not might be appreciated by the public but we are appreciated by our parents and the ones who know about us and what we do.” A guy in a red shirt said.
“Great. Don’t you want glory? Like those superhero movies, the heroes are famous. They are appreciated. We go into the crime and help the police out without them knowing who helped them. The credit goes to the police. Why should we help the humans? Maybe Tim was right to leave us, and go against us. I now understand his frustration.”
“Andy, stop talking like that. We don’t need you poisoning the minds of the rest of us. If you feel that way, leave us and find Tim. But know you will have a powerful enemy.” Jake intercepted.
“Jake, I didn’t see you there. Look I’m not stupid like Tim, but I can see why he left. It is true we don’t get appreciated.”
“Well here is a scenario for you: Humans find out about superheroes, and because there are so many superheroes, we will all fight to be the best and we will lose sight of what matters: The Humans Safety!”
“When you put it like that fine, but we work and train, and what do we get? Nothing.” Andy replied harshly.
“Look we don’t need negativity here. You can leave or you can shut your trap.” Jake said sternly. Andy walked away.
“Thanks for cutting in Jake. Andy is just mad that Tim turned on him.” The guy in the red shirt said.
“I know Paul. This is Luna.”
“Hello Luna, sorry you had to witness that argument.” Paul said.
“It’s okay. This place looks…intense.”
“Well it is. We train to help the humans with whatever disaster they have got.” Paul explained.
“Sounds fun.”
“Anyways, let’s continue walking Luna. See you later guys.” Then we left the cafeteria. Then all the sudden he stopped in his tracks. He turned to me and smiled.
“Do you remember asking me why I am a bully at school yet I fight crime. I think I just figured that out.”
“Really? Okay go on.”
“Well, I think it has to do with not being appreciated and the demi-gods thinking they are better than us. I think I push people around so it makes me feel better. I know that is a bad reason and I vow that I will not bully unless the kid actually deserves it.”
“Well that sounds logical. And I’m glad you have put your bullying days behind you.” Jake smiled at me. Then we kept walking. Once he showed me most of the place we went back to the entrance.
“I thought I should show you that we are serious about what we do, and we work just as hard as the demi-gods.” Jake said.
“Hello Luna and Jake. Your tour was good?” I nodded. “Good. Although I hear from Paul that Andy was a little bitter today. Paul and the rest of the group seemed to like you Luna. They all look forward to training with you.” Mr. Brown said.
“Well that sounds good.” I replied. Then Jake said good bye to Mr. Brown and we left and finally arrived at the end of the day. I went to my locker and packed my bag.
