My Quarterback - 10

Ellie Nichols

When I woke up the following morning there were two things I noticed; the pounding in my head and the revolting taste in my mouth that sent me running for the bathroom. When I finished throwing up what was left in my stomach, I brushed my teeth and returned to Colton's bed.

My head throbbed from the light that come in through the window, so I turned around from it and buried my head into Colton's chest, and I quickly fell asleep.

When I woke up a second time, it wasn't by choice. Someone was shaking me awake along with calling my name. I peeked through my lashes at Colton who sat next to me with a tray in his hands. The tray consisted of pancakes, bacon, and eggs along with water and a couple pills.

"Thank you," I croaked out, reaching for the pills first. Colton sat next to me, helping me eat the food. We stayed silent as I finished my food. I didn't want to talk about anything that happened last night. Not about Asher ditching me, or all the alcohol I consumed, or the chat I had last night with Cheyenne. And as soon as I thought her name the whole conversation from last night flooded my head.

"What happened last night?" Colt asked me, taking the tray from my hands and setting it down onto the floor by the bed. He turned towards me giving me his full attention. I stayed quiet as he continued to stare at me, waiting for an answer. "You promised you wouldn't do that again."

I couldn't bare to look him in the eyes. I had promised him, once upon a time, that I would never drink that much again. And I had just broken it. "I'm sorry." I told him.

"Where was Asher last night, I thought y'all were going to the party together?" He asked me.

"He had to leave, there was an emergency he said." I told him, my focus stayed on my hands as they placed the end of the blanket.

"And he didn't take you home?" Colton snapped, "He could have at least taken you home instead of leaving you there all by yourself. Something could have happened to you."

"He didn't even tell me he was leaving, he had Tristan tell me he was leaving."

"That douche," Colton said running a hand through his hair. "Leaving his girlfriend at a party all my herself, and he didn't even tell you himself."

"He's not my boyfriend. And I don't think he'll ever be." I confessed to Colton. "It was nice while it lasted but there's just something missing."

"So if Asher was to come over right now and ask you out you would say no?" He continued to ask me. I didn't know what was up with the twenty questions but I was getting fed up with the over-protective Colton who was sitting right next to me now.

"I don't know Colt, can you please stop asking me all these questions. My head hurts and you're not doing anything to help it." I snapped at him, instantly regretting it. "I'm sorry, I just thought he liked me the same way I liked him, but I guess not."

"I'm sure he likes you El, he's be stupid not to. I just wish you wouldn't have drank over that stupid kid."

"I'm really sorry Colt." I told him honestly. "I was just pissed and I wanted to have some fun."

"It's alright El, I forgive you."

I beamed at my best-friend when those words left his mouth. I always hated him being mad at me, I couldn't take it. When he was disappointed he had this specific look, his mouth turned into a frown, his nose flared just a little, and his eyebrows pulled down towards his eyes. It was the worst look he could give me and I was just happy that he wasn't mad at me anymore.
