Quad Elements

The rest of the day went by and I figured out how to use my new power. At one point I couldn't hear anyone because I could hear everyone hundreds of thoughts flying at me! Then I figured if I concentrated on one person I can block out all the other voices. It's a little scary what people are actually thinking but the ability to figure out information with this power was endless. 

That afternoon at home I gave the run down on the things I heard all day at school. My sisters and I had a different kind of gossip grapevine and it was fantastic. "This is going to come in handy we will know who we can trust and who we can't. We will be safer." Tierra stated. 

"You'll be able to tell us what everyone is thinking." Aria said all excited. It felt strange having this power sometimes I felt like I was invading people's privacy I found that I could switch off and I exercised that part of the gift if someone had very private thoughts. 

Saturday came by faster than I expected. I had seen Chris throughout the week a couple of times and each time I was keen to see him again. Unfortunately the only time I didn't see him with Katy attached was in English class. Katy was still a major pain although on the outside she was doing her best to become our new best friends, her mind however was telling me she did not like my sisters or myself very much at all. So now it was Saturday and Moana had been surfing all day with the guys, she was home now giving us the updates. 

"So there was this totally hot guy out there surfing with us this morning." She smiled so enthusiastic I thought her face would split. "His name is Chad and he is coming to the bon fire tonight." She came over to me put her hand on my arm. "I really want you tell me what his is thinking, Chal, he is mega hot. I really hope he likes me." I didn't know why she was worried everyone liked Moana especially because she surfed so well guys thought it was totally hot.  

"Chaleur shouldn't be using this power just o figure out if a guy likes you or not." Tierra said. Tierra was the voice of reason in our family. It was great we needed a voice of reason but sometimes she was a bit of a stick in the mud. 

"Oh, come on Tierra, don't be so serious all the time." Aria said.

We strolled down to the beach and the bon fire was burning. Chris and Katy walked over  

"Hey girls" Chris said but turned and smiled at me. I felt warm inside. "Your sister's a mad surfer." I switched off from Katy's mind chatter and thought that I should also let Chris have his thoughts to himself. 

"That's our girl, Moana loves the water." I said it was just a part of her.  

"Hey I wanted to ask, your name isn't the meaning large water or lake something like that in Maori?" I felt my insides warm not many people knew the meanings of our names. 

"Yeah it does." Moana said but she was distracted and didn't really care that he knew the meaning of her name. "Now introduce me to your friend Chad." Moana said and guided Chris over towards Chad. Katy was fuming but I didn't need to red her thoughts to know that. She grabbed a beer and headed after Chris. 

"Hey Aria" Aria turned at the sound of her name. She was face to face with a blonde surfy looking dude.  

"So you know my name but I don't know yours." She smiled her brilliant smile - the one that made guys practically fall at her feet. Both Aria and Moana were very comfortable with flirtation. I on the other hand tended to struggle with it and Tierra she never flirted. 

"I'm Sam." The hot surfer guy said to her. "I surfed with your sister today. Although when I saw you all walking along I notice you the most." Geez, that sounded corny wish I could rewind and do over thought Sam. Ahh his a little cutie. "Can I get you a drink, Aria?" She smiled and Sam's inner thoughts went into overdrive. Time to let him keep his thoughts to his self, they walked over and grabbed a couple of beers and headed over to the bon fire. 

I looked over at Tierra who looked a little sad.  

"You thinking of mum?" She smiled it did not light up her face like normal. 

"I thought you couldn't read our minds." 

"This is a sister thing, not a power thing." 

"I just don't know what to do? How do we know when we are safe and will we ever be?" 

"We don't know we've just got to stick together and really listen to our intuition about people. Hopefully we find out before it's too late." 

We both turned at the sound of screaming. Over past the bon fire Chris and Katy were in a very heated discussion.  

I don't even understand why you are here you never come to the bon fires just leave. Wow Chris didn't want her here. Katy stormed off in one direction with three of her followers and Chris walked back to the bon fire. He grabbed a beer and sat by himself near the fire. Tierra and I exchanged looks.
