Chapter 4

Madison’s POV

The large doors immediately yet slowly creaked open. Admittedly I found that very strange but nothing was stopping me when I was this close. I slowly, shakily took a couple steps inside and looked in both directions down the corridor. The corridor was the most extravagant thing I had ever seen in my entire life, and I have been living in Malfoy mannor so that’s saying something. The walls were all made of a reddish tan color with amazing detail carved into them. There were gargoyles of animals and moving paintings of people covering all of the walls. The frames of the paintings were so incredibly beautiful. They looked like just one of them would take an entire life time to perfect by hand. Once I could clear my head a bit and focus on the matter at hand I realized that there was no one, not a single soul in the corridor. However, I could hear the echo of chatter coming from the right side of the castle and I decided to follow it straight into the dark castle.

It only took me about five minutes and a couple of wrong turns to find where all of the chatter was coming from and by then I was about to pass out. Once I found where the noise was coming from I stumbled up to the door and pushed it open.

At first nothing happened and everyone continued on with their conversations as they were before I opened the door. But once people took a second look at me they realized that something must be wrong and slowly groups of people started to turn and notice me and boy; I must be quite the sight to see. After the whole room went silent two men at the very front of the hall jerked up from their seats with wide eyes and mouths open like a fish as if they were seeing a ghost.

I really had no idea what to do now so I did the only thing that made sense and I started limping to the two men who looked like they were in charge. I got half way up the rows of tables before I started to sway as dizziness and exhaustion took over. Just as I was about to hit the floor face first, a tall red head boy jumped up from his seat and grabbed me before slowly lowering me to the ground. The last thing I remember before passing out was the shocked faces of everyone around me and hearing them all take in loud, sharp gasps.

The first thing that I noticed after waking up, before even opening my eyes was the unnaturally soft object beneath me and how oddly warm I felt. Thinking it was a dream I laid there for a bit longer so the peace would last. But after a while when it was still there I figured that something must be wrong, this can’t actually be real.

I opened my eyes only to be greeted by a pair of beady black eyes. I screamed at the top of my lungs and jumped to the other side of the bed only to realize that the bed wasn’t really that big and therefore ended up on the nice hard floor.

“Hey, it’s okay. You’re okay.” I heard the man speak. He sounded awkward, like he didn’t know how to handle me.

“Umm… you don’t need to be scared or anything, were going to help.” He tried again when I didn’t respond. He sounded like he was talking to a lost dog or something.

“Well, uh… what’s your name?” He asked.

“Madison, Madison Potter.” I responded after a slight pause.

His eyes widened and his mouth dropped open like it did when I had seen him in the Great Hall. All of a sudden his face got hard and cold as he stood up straighter as if he wanted to intimidate me and make me think that I was the lower being. But that was not going to pass with me, I have been knocked down so many times before and I did not come here for it to continue to happen. I got up off of the floor and put up a cold front just like the man in front of me was doing and showed him that I was not one to back down. Once I could actually get a good look at him I could tell that he was probably only about 38 years old. However, it did not look like he knew how to take care of his long black greasy hair. He was very tall and had a long crooked nose that reminded me of a vacuum cleaner and looked as if it had been broken one too many times.

“That’s a bloody lie, who are you trying to fool, Madison is dead and has been for fifteen and a half years!” He screamed at me.
