Thanks For Making This Story (Non Teen Fiction #14)

Daniel and I grew up in completely different worlds. I had grown up with a widowed mother who had recently died, and he had grown up with a family of great wealth and prestige. So when he asked me to come to dinner with his family I was expectantly uncertain.

"Daniel, I really do not feel like doing this, they will never like me," I whined and plopped unto the black couch.

"Emma, I know they will love you," he said with a silly  smile in my direction.

"Fine, but then you will never make me do it again" I said with instant regret. I was going to have to go through this dinner.

"Yes, my wonderful, beautiful girl," He replied giving my cheek a soft peck.

______

It was 4:00, and I still could not figure out what to wear. Black, I decide was to somber, and Pink was too comical.   After thirty minutes I decided on a red dress. I curled my hair into light delicate curls, and wore a string of pearls Daniel had gotten for me last year.

I shared a very luxurious apartment/dorm on campus. The rent was pretty high compared to a dorm, but the layout was similar to an apartment and the square footage was pretty great. My roomate Ella was pretty nice too.

I spent the time inbetween fixing up my nails and browsing through Places Magazine. Occasionally rehersing how to speak to Daniel's family and reading a couple lines from Miss Manners here and there.

Around seven Daniel texted me and I ran down the stairs to his car. In the early stages of our relationship he would come upstairs to my room and bring me down but I had decided that just texting me was fine.

"Hey Honey" he greeted me as I slid into the passenger seat. The soft beige leather greeting me.

"Hi" I said giving him a light smile. I was nervous. I knew they thought I was a gold digger, but who wouldn't. Daniel was the heir to one of the most prestigious companies in the country, and I was a young orphan with a troubled past.

-----------

I shook a bit when we stepped into the large home. The Newman Estate consisted of a large stone house with acres of award winning grounds.

"Hello John, and you must be Emma. It is a pleasure to meet you" Mrs. Newman said to me. She was a pretty woman with dark brown hair and blue eyes.

"Hello" I said quietly. Quietly, because I was shaking, and terribly nervous.

"Come, sit down" Mrs. Newman said with the guesture of her hand.

When I sat at the large table I began to notice my surroundings. Daniel's to brothers Mark and James sat on the opposite side of the table. I knew very little about Daniel's family. He had two brothers, and the one names Mark was engaged to a lovely blonde haired girl with the name of Ashley Wincraft. The other brother James was your typical player. Currently he had a pretty brunette on his side, and so I figured that she was his girlfriend.

The Newmans were a prestigious family, and had money for several generations. Mrs. Newman was known for her graces and charity work.

Dinner was exquisite, and everything was going exeptional. I made small talk with Ashley  Wincraft. Daniel seemed to be happy, and his mother did not seem too disgusted by me. I think that has to be some improvement.

After dinner the group of elites decided to take a tour around the acres of land. The Newman Estate was absolutely breathtaking and the gardens were truly romantic. Beautiful really.

I had strayed ahead of the group a bit and was examining some Azaeles on a gazebo when Daniels arm grazed my back, forcing me to turn around.

"Emma, there is something I need to ask you. Something I feel should be done in front of those I love, the ones that I care about."

A bit confused I raised my eyebrow "Alright... just say it."

He dropped down on his knees as his family smiled in the direction of the gazebo.

"Emma... You are everything to me and I know that we haven't been together for that long... but what I feel for you can never be replaced by another and I believe that our love can last a long time. Forever together, right?"

I gulped and he shuffled through his pockets retrieving a box. He slid the box open revealing a diamond ring...

"Emma, my lovely. I want you to marry me and be my wife."

My heart stopped. I was far too young to marry and I hadn't known him for long. At least not long enough to commit my life to him.

I bite my lip "I love  you... but I can't."
