In Love with the Rogue

  This is my first story guys, so take it easy on me!    

I'll admit, it's a bit boring at the start, but it gets WAY more interesting in the next few chapters, so bear with me!

My eyes scanned the text message from my Aunt.

Living in America always seemed like a dream. I still couldn't wrap my head around the fact that this was my home now, after years of dreaming of living here.

I'd always wanted some excitement and something out of the ordinary to happen to me, and that wasn't going to happen back home in Australia. So when my Aunt and Uncle decided to move to Florida for work, I couldn't believe my luck when they asked me to come with them, and my parents agreed.

 I kept in regular contact with my family, but I was really glad to be away and on my own. My aunt and uncle worked full time, so I usually had their two storey house to myself. I could throw some great parties while they were out working over the weekend, just like I did back home.

The thought of starting a new school next week didn't bother me; I had always fit in with the crowd. I didn't see how this could change now.

Sitting up from my bed, I let my long, brown hair loose. Popping my earphones in, I pulled on my snapbacks cap and headed for a walk through the forest. I didn't get why there was a massive forest surrounding the whole town, but who was I to judge Mother Nature?

Singing along to Hot Chelle Rae, I made my way through the dense forest. I considered myself a rebel, so I never followed the path; I made my own.

Thug life, I know.

My voice became louder as I moved further away from civilization. I loved to sing and write music, even though  I was really self-consious.

I kept moving until I reached a large clearing. I had only been here a handful of times, and had never hiked further. Gettting lost was a bitch-especially with no mobile reception or a trail to follow back home.

Lying down in the middle of the clearing, I watched the tiny slits of sunlight that hit me through the gaps in the trees. It was beautiful. I lay down on the wet grass, not caring if my butt got wet. I probably would later, but oh well. You only live once (YOLO) and all that shit.

The music in my earpieces blared loudly, I closed my eyes thinking I'd just lay here for a while.

I should have known better.

I must have dozed off, because when I woke up, my phone told me it was four in the evening. I'd been sleeping on the floor for three hours! Note to self- no more staying up.

Picking myself up and dusting off the grass, I started to head back home before it became too dark out and I was left out here with the squirrels. That would be fun. Maybe I'd resort to cannibalism if I became too hungry.

Squirrel cannibalism? 

I had barely started making my way back when I felt a cool breeze blowing past my neck. A shadow appeared from deeper in the clearing, disturbing my squirrel thoughts.

I wasn’t alone-that much I could ascertain.

Who else would come to this exact spot when the forest is so massive? And I wasn’t even near the path! Calm down Ash, it's probably just some hiker dude or something. If worse comes to worst, just knee him in the balls.

Wishing I had brought my pepper spray, I winced and turned around slowly.

Standing at the edge of the clearing was a massive black wolf.

Holy shit was I screwed.

This wolf was freaking huge! Its midnight black fur was tainted with white around its muzzle and paws. What freaked me out the most was its blue eyes. They were beautiful, the colour of the sky on a hot day, and they mesmerized me. But wolves didn’t have blue eyes! Did they? I don’t know,  science wasn't my strong point.

People would kill to see the look on my face right now. Hey, maybe they screen shot your last moments before you go to heaven? 

The giant wolf took a step forward, knocking me out of my thoughts.

I never thought it would end this way. Wow, that sounded dramatic. Oh who cares; this beautiful creature was going to tear me to smithereens anyway. Death by wolf. I wondered if that was common? Might do some research when I get to heaven...

I stood like a statue, my brown eyes wide. I knew there was no point in running since it would only enjoy the chase before pouncing on me, so I waited for the death that was sure to come.

Gulp.
