Bailey and Aiden on the side --->

Chapter One

Bailey’s POV

‘I will stay with you – isn’t that enough?’ I sighed at Edward Cullen’s words and snapped the damn book shut. Things like that only happened in books, where a happy ending was easily written. In real life we weren’t that lucky. In real life people leave.

“Do I really want to be a basketball player?” Aiden asked, looking up at me with a deep frown. He was filling in yet another college application.

“Yes, since you were ten actually.”

“Yeah but now I’m actually applying for college, I have to think about this stuff properly. I mean wanted to be an astronaut when I was six.”

“Seven,” I corrected.

“Fine, seven. My point is, can you really know what you want to do with the rest of your life when you’ve never experienced it? I like the idea of being a professional basketball player but what if in reality it sucks, or I don’t make it?”

“You’re overthinking it. If you change your mind later in life you can always quit and join the SWAT hotties, my dad and yours excluded. You’re an awesome player, you’ll make it.”

He sighed, “I hope so, but don’t you think I should have something else in case?”

“Like what?”

Aiden fell silent, frowning as he thought about what he would do if basketball wasn’t a possibility. “I don’t know,” he admitted. “I’ve focused on basketball so much, god I just assumed that I’d-”

I slapped my hand over his mouth, “Enough with the freak out. If you continue working hard you’ll make it.”

He grinned under my hand, his eyes lighting up in amusement, “You sound like a fortune cookie.”

“But a wise fortune cookie.” He kissed my hand before I removed it and turned back to his application.

A loud bang on my bedroom door startled us both. “Yeah?” I shouted.

The door bust open and my dad looked around, his posture tense and alert. “Your door was closed, Bailey,” he stated.

“Nothing gets past you does it,” I said sarcastically.

“There needs to be a little more distance between you two,” he demanded, pointing between me and Aiden. He was lying on my bed and I was sitting cross legged beside him, my leg was touching his arm but it wasn’t like we were naked or anything! “And I’m leaving the door open. I will hear even the quietest noise, so Peters, keep your hands to yourself.” He turned around and walked out, leaving the door wide open.

Aiden turned to me and we burst out laughing.

Apart from being a little, well a lot, overprotective I was pretty damn lucky with my dad. He was cool, in a dad way. I was closer to him than my mom, a total daddy’s girl. He was my hero. My mom was awesome too but I couldn’t get away with nearly as much with her as I could with him.

I was like a carbon copy of my mom though; it was almost as if she’d just made me by herself. That was what dad always said he loved the most, that I wasn’t ruined with any part of him. My brother, Cameron looked more like him now he was older. I smiled to myself, so in dad’s eyes Cam was ruined?

Less than twenty seconds later dad was back. “Aiden, are you staying for dinner?”

“Yeah, thanks.”

“Dad, can you shut the door please?” I asked as he turned around to go back out. He looked at me over his shoulder, raising his eyebrows but fighting a smile at the same time. With a little smirk he pushed the door the last few inches so it was open completely, chuckling to himself.

I would have done the same thing.

“So, where’s this college?” I asked Aiden, lying down beside him.

“New York.”

New York? What was wrong with the colleges in LA? I wanted him to be happy and go wherever he wanted but it seemed like every college he’d applied for so far was over a thousand miles away.

I nodded, “Cool.”

As soon as he’d put the pen down and pushed me onto my back, rolling on top of me. His deep brown eyes staring into mine, making my heart flutter at the intensity. A mass of messy brown hair tickled my forehead as he lay above me. He took in a shaky breath as I traced his jaw line with my index finger.
