KIRK’S POV
I screwed up. I screwed my whole life up. All my friends are mad at me. I’m even mad at myself. Sure, Amber was amazing, but I don’t want to deal with a kid. I don’t want to put the kid up for adoption, either. And, no matter what, I wasn’t letting Amber get an abortion.
I tried calling Sun. I didn’t care if it was three in the morning. To my surprise, someone picked up. Sadly, it wasn’t Sun. Juliet answered.
“Just a sec,” She whispered into the phone. After a little less than a minute she came back. “Sorry, Sun finally fell asleep on the couch. I didn’t want to wake her. So, I am still mad at you, but it isn’t my business what you did. It’s between Amber, you, Sun . . . and your parents.”
I groaned. My parents. They were the last people I wanted to tell. My mom isn’t the most caring person in the world. My dad, well I don’t want to be around when he finds out. “Thanks for reminding me. So, anyway, does this mean I can’t talk to Sun?”
“No. I am not waking her up just so she’ll cry again. You really hurt her. I would give her at least a week. After that, you should explain. Just don’t do anything stupid in the mean time.”
“Yeah, yeah I know,” I whispered. Then I heard the doorbell. I furrowed. Who would be at the door at this hour? “Hey . . . I have to go. Someone’s at the door . . .” Before Juliet could respond I hung up.
I crept towards the door. I don’t want to admit that I am kind of scared of who could be at the door. I opened the door to find the one person I didn’t expect. Amber.
Amber looked beaten. She had on sweatpants and a sweatshirt. Her eyes were bloodshot and her cheeks were flushed.
I stepped out of the way for her to come in. I lead her over to my room. I was begging in my mind that my parents wouldn’t wake up.
Amber sat on my bed and I remained standing. I looked at her, “A-are you going to go through with it?”
Amber looked down at the ground. “I really don’t know. I don’t want to have a child. I can’t take care of one. I don’t know how. I also don’t want to give away a child. That would kill me inside and out.”
I sighed and sat next to her. “I think that you won’t be alone on this. I will be there with you. We made a mistake. A huge mistake. But, maybe, this will turn out to be something good. Think about it, okay? I don’t want you making a decision that you’re not happy with.”
“Thank you. For a guy who I picked off the street, you’re okay.”
Then she left without anything more to say. I sat on my bed in wonder. I couldn’t sleep even if I tried. The next thing I know, I am in front of Juliet’s house. Why? Because I knew my wonderful Sun was in that house.
