As I got dressed the next day, my mind automatically went to ponder at the incidents from the last week. Had all that really happened? My best friend Luke- the one human who knew me so much better than my own parents- had a girlfriend who happened to be the biggest bitch in the whole school? And he didn't even give either of us a hint.
I know that it all may sound a bit vain, but I honestly hadn't expected that from Luke. Sure, I expected him to have a girlfriend, and I wouldn't even have minded if he introduced me to her after school- we did hang out together quite a lot. And the worst bit was...I wasn't even that angry at that bitch Ellize. She was so shocked, I would have teased her until the end of the world about it...if I hadn't been quite that shocked myself.
Suddenly, I couldn't help but wonder about my trust in my best friend. I had told him absolutely everything there was to know about me, and he probably knew me better that myself. How much of it had just been a big joke to him? Did he laugh at me behind my back with the other guys form his cliques? It felt weird to be embarrassed that someone else knew that I was so insecure about petty things.
I shook my head, remembering reading that always helps main characters in all the big stories. Yes, yes, Grachelle is a book worm. Well, closet bookworm, at least. Another thing for Luke to laugh at behind my back. But, I guess I'm not some character in a sappy love story, because it did not clear my head. At all.
Fortunately, my phone did. We Found Love by Rihanna started to pick up tempo on my iPhone and I walked over to it to see the face of a slightly long but still cute faced seventeen year old kissing my cheek as I winked cheesily into the camera. The name Matt was above the picture, and I let out a sigh. This is not the conversation I wanted to be having so early in the day. But I knew it couldn't be avoided.
Touching 'Accept' I moved the phone to my ear as I sat down on the ground. There were some serious benefits to having mega rich parents, like a carpet so soft you can't tell it apart from the bed.
"Grachelle!" the heavy masculine voice sounded on the other end of the line.
"Oh hey Matt," I said in a bored tone, not caring to sound interested.
"So, I heard what happened last week. But heck, Luke was a retard. No offense. And, the good thing is, we can hang out more now that he's out of the picture! It's not like you were that close anyways- no one would know that you were best friends if he hadn't gone around flaunting it about all day just to get more pop-"
"Matt, I'm breaking up with you," I cut him off. It was best to be abrupt, and that's me speaking from experience after having dated almost every decent looking guy there is within the surrounding ten towns and cities. If you choose to be all gentle and I'm-trying-not-to-break-your-heart for breaking up, they just get over-emotional making you either not break up after all or just make it about ten million times worse.
"What?" he sounded genuinely surprised. Did he really expect me to be his 'princess in a tower' after hearing my notorious dating history? And my experience tells me that he will start sputtering a reply in 3, 2, 1...
"W-wait what?! Is this because of what I said about Luke? Because it's all true! And I'm still willing to a-apologize!" he shrieked into the phone. Sheesh! Who knew he could have such a piercing voice?
Expecting this to carry on for the next five minutes- at least- I set the phone down on the ground, and lay down beside it. The light material of my night dress whispered on my skin, and the fluffy warm light purple carpet sunk where my weight was. Using fingers I slightly combed my hair to make it easier for when the hairbrush would be needed. The minutes ticked by, and I could still hear Matt going at it, with me jumping in with "I know"s at appropriate gaps- the guy owed that much.
After a little while of this, my alarm started beeping gently, telling me it was time to get a move on. Lifting the phone up, I interrupted him for the second time, "Yeah, sorry, but I got to get a move on and get changed. I’m busy busy busy! The weekends aren’t long enough, are they? You know how it is- a girl needs to dress great if she wants to break hearts of gullible boys, much like yourself!"
