Review:
The Ballad of Ivy Hillman by Tayla160.
The Ballad of Ivy Hillman follows a teenage girl named Ivy, who after the tragic death of her parent’s moves to a small town called Stormville. Not only is she adjusting to the aftermath of losing both of her parents, but she needs to adjust to a new town, new school, and make new friends. Change is never easy, but I feel that the character is really strong and copes the best way she knows how.
What I liked the most about this story was the loveable characters and their quirky quotes. They left me smiling and even brought me to laughter – many a time! The author definitely captures the characters personalities well. The story itself is well developed, as is the plot . . . and it really just makes for a fun read! Honestly, the author has a really good sense of humour!
I liked the general ‘flow’ of the story, and it kept me up reading, well past my bedtime – way into the early hours of the morning. And I did feel like I couldn’t put the story down. I loved the ‘school’ scenes, and felt like the author captured teenage minds very well. Also, I loved how she—the author—developed the relationships between the characters, especially the siblings! It definitely had that ‘family’ feel to it.
This novel is definitely recommended to anyone who wants something fun to read.
