“Th-This is a t-t-terrible i-idea.” I hissed as I peeked into the restaurant and over to the table where a small brunette sat.
“Oh you’ll be fine.” Jan replied nonchalantly. “And besides, Casey is working tonight so if worse comes to worse, he can help.”
“I honestly don’t see how he can help if he’s working.” Addie replied with a scowl before mumbling, “The bitch better be good to Jack, otherwise I’ll kick her arse.”
“We don’t doubt it, Addie.” Mile replied sympathetically and placed a hand to her shoulder.
My head was spinning. I had changed my mind. I decided that I didn't want a date, but I couldn’t get my mouth to work. The moment I did find my voice though, Jan pushed me into the restaurant, causing me to stumble.
A man eyes me suspiciously. “Can I help you?”
“H-H-Harris f-for tw-two.” I choked out.
The man raised his eyes to the roof before turning and signalling me to follow. He led me right to the table and I sat down, nervously glancing around the room before looking over at the smiling brunette. “Hiya!”
I clenched and unclenched my fists a few times as I tried to think of something to say. “I-um-you-H-Hi…”
“I’m Tegan. What’s your name?”
“J-J-Ja…Ja…” I directed my gaze to the ground. I was terrible.
“Ja?” She frowned. “That’s a weird name. Is it French?”
“N-No!” I spluttered. “I-It’s J-J-Jack!”
“Oh?” She raised an eyebrow. “Why didn’t you say so? Well then, Jack, before we get to know each other, let’s look at the menu. I’m starving.”
I gave a hurried nod and kept my eyes trained on the menu in front of me, not saying a word. I was so embarrassed. How could Jan do this to me? I wanted someone special but a blind date was the last thing I had expected. After a few moments, I heard Tegan clear her throat.
“Aren’t you going to open your menu?” She asked.
I went red and muttered an apology as I yanked over the menu. Almost choked at the prices. I was so glad that Jan and Miles offered to pay. All of this was way out of my price range.
“Can I help yo-” I glanced up and say Casey staring at me in surprise.
“Uh yes, I’ll have an iced tea and-Jack?” Tegan glanced at me.
I felt my cheeks heat up and kept me eyes glued to the menu. Oh crap, what do I say, what do I say? “W-Water.”
“Uh…right…well then I’ll be back in a minute with your order…um…Sir?” I watched Casey walked away in confusion. Huh…guess Jan forgot to tell him that I had a blind date tonight.
“So, Jack; what hobbies do you have?” Tegan asked curiously, snapping me from my thoughts. “Do you play sports?”
I bit down on my lip, hard. ‘N-No I-I d-don’t pl-play sp-sp-sport.”
“Mhmm…” She suddenly eyed me with disinterest. “Well…what are your hobbies then?”
I prayed to any god that was out there that Casey would hurry up with our drinks. My mouth was as dry as the Simpson Desert. “M-M-My h-h-h-h-hobbies a-are….u-um….r-reading a-and….u-uh…” Is it me or is it getting a little hot in here? I tugged on my collar. I felt like I was suffocating.
“Here are your drinks. I apologize for the wait. Are you ready for me to take your orders yet?” Casey asked.
“Yes.” Tegan said and placed her menu. “I would like the Chilli Prawn and Lime pasta.”
“Would you like any sides?”
“No thank you.”
“And you, Jack?”
“Jack, just point to the one you want, alright?” Casey offered with a smile.
I gave a weak smile and pointed to one of the dishes at random. I didn’t really care what I got. “Pasta Putanesca? Good choice, Jackie.”
“Aw ‘Jackie?” that’s so cute!” Tegan smiled and stared at him from under her lashes.
Casey eyed her warily and said, “Uh, yeah. I’ll be back with your orders soon…” before walking off.
“Do you, like, know him?” Tegan asked as she stared at Casey as he walked out. I gaped at her. She was totally staring at his arse!
“Oh really now…” She murmured and took a sip of her iced tea.
I heaved a sigh and stirred my water with my straw. I resisted the urge to roll my eyes. Casey always had a habit of giving me straws with my drinks. Apparently it was because I was so childish; Miles said it was because I hadn’t hit puberty. For his information, I actually had hit puberty. I just hadn’t had my growth spurt. Thankfully, Jan had hit him for that comment. Addie had called him a paedophile for crushing on someone who hadn’t hit puberty and looked like a primary school student. Jan had hit her also.
