Chrysanthemum Ferndend's P.O.V.
The cold, wet liquid pounded my head, damping my dark, brown hair and causing my high pony tail to fall lower. I didn't care at this point, nobody has ever cared about me since the day my big sister Lyra was killed in the 46th Hunger Games.
I lowered my head to look at the muddy ground as I sloshed my black, leather boots threw it. The dirt splashed onto my grey, moist skirt.
I lifted my head to see the family's holding hands some crying or hugging each other. I looked around me and saw no family to hug or wipe my tears away. But I carried on to the reaping ceremony alone.
I kept on think about my mother and father who had left me 2 years ago threw depression about my dead sister. I, at this point didn't even have a clue where they were or if they were alive or not. I had been alone with no family to care for me since, and was forced to live in a town home with the other children with dead or helpless parents.
Trying to shake the thoughts from my mind, I walk faster to the towns square, wanting to get this horrible event over with. Once I entered the square I spotted a dark skinned girl with golden eyes and knew at a moment it was one of my best friends, Adrianna. She was with her dad and little brother. They were all huddled together hugging and giving each other kisses, which once again reminded me of before my sisters death when I had a family to love.
Adrianna quickly glanced up at me and unraveled herself from her hugging. She sprinted over to were I stood and embarrassed me in her arms. I could hear her crying a little bit. I notice that she was not wet like the rest of us. I thought she probably came in her car. Adrianna's family was one of the few very wealthy family's of District 12, her father was a baker and a successful one. That is why her family could afford the car.
"I would have brought you here Chrys. You didn't have to walk." Adrianna lets go of me and brushes some loose, wet hairs behind my ear.
"I wanted to walk." I say giving her a week smile.
"Okay, fine but I'm driving you home." She throws her warm arm around my shoulder and we walk to the front of the huge stage together.
"Hey ya'll!" A short, 15 year old boy jumps his way in between Adrianna and I. His shaggy dirty blond hair is soaked in water. He is wearing a blue collared shirt that is un-buttoned half way, and a pair of dirty denim shorts.
"Hey Haymitch." Adrianna says weakly.
Haymitch doesn't respond back but puts his short arms around both me and Adrianna's shoulder.
"Aren't you cold?" I ask looking at his very casual summer wear.
"Uh... no. I would ask you the same." He looks at me the same way I looked at him and makes a disgusted face at my purple, plain t-shirt that was getting way to short for me, and my grey jean skirt.
"This is my sisters reaping outfit and I'm really not in the mood for you criticism." I harshly say pushing his arm away from me.
"Okayyy." Haymitch throws his hands up in defence. There is an uncomfortable silence that goes on for at least three minutes, and then I hear Adrianna's family head our way. Her father grabs Adrianna and my hand, and her 7 year old brother, Trip, holds on to mine. Her family was more of a family to me then my actual family members were.
We wait in silence for Efia Daneson to announce this years 49th hunger games tributes.
"Welcome!" Efia's voice boomed threw the whole towns square.
"Now is the time to announce one courageous young man and woman, for the honor of representing District 12 in 49th Hunger Games." Her voice was high like most of the capitol workers were. I wasn't sure why they all had the weird accent. I heard lots of citizens take a very deep breath and I started to shake a little. "Lady's first." Efia says cheerfully. Adrianna, Trip, and her father all close there eyes, I do the same.
Efia digs her hand in a large glass bowl and takes out a piece of white paper and reads the name printed on it. "Cassia Davidson." A tall tan girl about 17 turns as red as a tomato and looks around her as if Efia had called someone else.
