It has been 10 years since I last saw Jack and 8 years since Jack left the message for me. Jeff and I got married right when I turned 18. Colby is now 9 years old and we were blessed enough to have a little girl named Natasha. Natasha is 3 years old. Today is a magical day. It's Christmas Eve! Currently I am baking cookies in the kitchen with Natasha. Colby is sitting at the table drawing a picture for Santa. He's so cute. Soon the guests I've invited for the Christmas party will arrive.
"I'm home!" Jeff yells from the front door.
"Daddy!" Natasha and Colby run to the door and give him a big hug. Jeff chuckles. "I also brought some people with me." Through the front door walk in Cori and Cole.
"Auntie Cori! Uncle Cole!" Colby and Natasha shout in unison. Yeah Cole actually proved he wasn't evil and he's been kind to us since. Cole walks over to the tree and places presents under the tree. I put the cookies into the oven and start a timer before walking over to our guests. I give Cole and Cori a hug each and give Jeff a quick peck on the lips.
"How are you guys? I haven't seen you for at least a month." I ask Cori and Cole. Cori was the bridesmaid of our wedding and Cole was the best man.
"Well I'm engaged!" Cori says.
"Congratulations!" I tell her. We all walk over to the couch in the family room and sit. We socialize for about 15 minutes when the timer for the cookies goes off. I rush over to the oven and put on oven mitts before taking the cookies out onto a rack to cool off. When I slip off the oven mitts the door bell rings. I go to the door and open it to see Zeus and Drew. With Austin and Brandon not too far behind. I hug them all and then help with the gifts and bringing them to the livingroom. Everyone hugs everyone because that's how close we've all gotten after all that's happened. After we sit at the table and have a big Christmas meal prepared by me, we all gather around the Christmas tree. Zeus and Jeff pass out the gifts for everyone. Colby and Cori are practically jumping up and down in excitement. All of us are telling stories about the good things that happened in the past. No one even mentions Jack. But then again, why would we? Christmas is a happy time and talking about Jack and all he's done would really spoil the mood.
"Remember the time when we had the gift exchange that one year and Abby forgot to mark which package was which? Oh that was funny. I remember opening a guys t shirt. I was so confused." Cori smiles at the memory. We all start opening presents. Smileing and thanking people who got us the gifts one by one. Soon Natasha was sorrounded by unwrapped packages and was half asleep. Jeff picks her up and brings her to bed so she doesn't fall asleep on the floor. We continue to talk and Colby plays with the new toys he got. He stops and looks at me.
"Mommy who's Jack?" Colby asks me. We all freeze. Those of us who were smiling were grim in seconds.
"Colby, where did you hear that name?" Austin asks him.
"I looked on one of the presents I have and it says to Colby from Jack. Then I looked at one of Natasha's presents and it said to Natasha from Jack." Colby explained. The whole room is silent for a couple minutes.
"Colby do you know which ones where from him?" Zeus asks him. I'm still too shaken up to speak. He's back... I know he sent the message but I can't believe he's really back.
"Yeah. The ballerina bear wearing the blue tutu for Natasha and he got me a basketball." Colby replied.
"Can I please have those toys?" I finally speak up.
"But mommy I really like the basketball." Colby whines.
"Colby, Jack is a bad guy. We don't want him to hurt you, Natasha, Mommy or Daddy do we?" Cori asks Colby. Colby shakes his head." So you should give the toys to your mommy."
"Okay." He replies. Colby hands me the toys and I take them outside and throw them in the trash. I get back inside and sit back on the couch. We are all silent. Jeff walks back in the room with a smile not knowing what is happening. His smile falls off his face when he sees all of our expressions.
"Colby it's time for bed." I quietly tell him. He just nods his head and goes to his room. He obviously knows that the situation is tense. Once he leaves Jeff puts on a worried look.
"What happened?" He questions us.
"He's back again. This time he came even closer to Abby. He sent gifts to both of your kids. I think he is planning to strike again." Cole says.
"Jeff what if he wins this time? What if he got stronger?" I ask with tears in my eyes.
"He won't Abby I'll protect you." Jeff says. Our perfect Christmas just turned into the worst day I've had in a long time.
