Prologue:

I’M NOT A BAD PERSON, I just do bad things.

My mind was foggy, clouded, and my jaded heart was thriving for justice. That’s the funny thing about justice, sometimes you need to get your hands a little dirty before they can truly be cleaned. And I did feel dirty. This, what I was doing, it was wrong—and I knew this—but it was the only way I could save him.

Knox, much to my dismay, shared my thoughts. “Chloe,” he said my name in that same pleading tone. I refused to look at him. “Please reconsider doing this.”

He spoke like I had another choice. “Ian is dead because of me,” I replied icily.

“No,” he shook his head. “He’s dead because of Ace.”

My eyes went wide. “So he finally confessed to doing it?”

His lips tugged down at the side. “Well, no,” he sighed. “But he did have the motives, I guess, and all evidence pointed to him. It’s hard to get answers in his current . . . condition.” I ignored the unspoken ‘that you put him in,’ because he deserved it. As far as I was concerned, Ace was dead to me until Ian was alive again. “But that doesn’t mean you should murder somebody.”
