Only Daughter of Hera

Avery walked down the street after school. She was walking very slow, not looking forward to telling her father of her fight that day. Or of the strange boy that ended it.

She knew that boy. Well, sorta. He went to her school, and they where in all the same classes, but he kinda kept to himself. 

So, anyways.

Today she was walking to her locker when the school bully walked up to her. "Aye! Look who it is." he said to his gang friends nodding toward Avery.

Avery quickened her pace to her locker, "Go away Todd." she said.

"No." Todd said "I don't wanna." he knocked the books out of her hand's.

Avery's book's dropped to the floor, "Why do you have to be so mean?" she asked frowning reaching to open her locker.

"Because that's just the kind of guy I am." Todd said side stepping infront of the locker.

"Move." Avery ordered.

Todd shook his head, "I don't wanna."

"Or you can't..." Avery muttered.

Todd's smile dropped, "What did you just say?"

Avery shrugged, "nothing...."

Todd made a fist stepping toward her, "You said something, and I don't think I like it very much." he said.

Avery's eyes widened glancing at his fist, "I'm sorry I didn't mean it!" she said.

"Your gonna be sorry!" Todd said, but before he could do anything a boy, Alex I think was his name maybe? Kicked Todd's feet out from under him.

Todd stood up angerly but the boy punched him in the nose. There was a cracking noice and Todd let out a cry of pain, mostly drowned out by the sound of the bell indicating that school was over.

Avery looked around so she could thank the boy but he had disappeared in the croud. So  she turned and walked away.

She walked into her house to see it completely in ruins and her father lying dead on the floor.

"Daddy!" Avery screamed, running to kneel beside him.

She felt her father's pulse and found none. Curling up in a ball she began to cry, suddenly someone put a hand on her shoulder. She looked up to see it was the boy. "What are you doing here-?"

The boy cut her off, "Shhhh! We have to go!" he whispered ergently.

"Why?" Avery asked, "Who did this? Who killed him?....Did you....?"

The boy shook his head, "No. But the ones who did are still in the house. We must leave." He pulled on her arm.

"I don't know your name Alex right?" Avery asked wiping the tears from her eyes and stood up.

"No Alek." Alek said, "Come on" he turned and walked toward the door. As he reached for the handle there was a crash up stairs. Alek glanced at her, "Run!" he said more ergently throwing the door open, gripping Avery's arm as they ran.

"Where are we going?" Avery asked as they continued running to the woods.

"Anywhere, but here." Alek responded,darting into the forest.

Something jumped from a tree, "Jackel! Stay back Avery." The Alek did the most Amazing thing he stpped toward the Jackel(Which looked like a man, but with extremely large teath.) And claws like cat claw grew out of his fingers. He scratched at the Jackel.

The Jackel let out a loud and cold laugh, "A Mai? A Mai is the girls protecter?" he asked.

"Mai? What's a Mai?" Avery asked. 

Alek glanced at her, "I'm a Mai...." A turned to the Jackel, "And they sent a Jackel to kill her?" he spat.

"Kill me?!" Avery shreiked.

The Jackel nodded, taking a step toward Alek and Avery. Alek leaped out at the Jackel slashing at it's chest. The Jackel gripped Alek around the neck and through him at a tree.

"Alek!" Avery screamed. 

But Alek stood right back up, running at the Jackel with much more force Avery thought for a moment he might be able to take the Jackel. Her hopes vanished when the Jackel Jabbed Alek in the stomach causing him to fall to the ground in pain. "Give up?" The Jackel asked.

"Not untill you let her go." Alek responded, As he said it two other Jackels steped out into the clearing, and held Avery's arms behind her back.

"Over my. Dead. Body." The Jackel said very slowly and harshly.

Alek leaped to his feet. "You about to be dead!" And with that he charged again at the Jackel, This time dodging averything thrown at him. He kneed the Jackel in the groin the when the Jackel was crouched down. He elbowed him in the face knocking him out cold. Alek turned to the Jackels holding Avery, "Wanna see what a Mai can really do?" he asked.
