It had been two weeks since I had seen Grey. I think he had honestly taken what I said to heart. I was starting to think that he probably didn’t exist and  I was just a delusion in the woods. You know kind of like when people see mirages in the desert of food and water, when they are super hungry.

But things had been weird at school since my car accident. It was like no one cared about my sexuality at all and all of a sudden I was more popular than I had ever been. Everyone wanted to be my friend which I didn’t mind much but it was tough especially during lunch because so many people wanted to sit next to me. I always ended up being squished at the head of table. Everyone wanted to know about my life.

Are you single?

Who cuts your hair?

Want to come to my party Saturday night?

It was like I was a member of One Direction or something. This new found popularity also had guys literally throwing themselves at me. Like guys I never knew was gay. They must have been inspired by my bold coming out. Who would have guessed?

My biggest crush, Kevin Wilkinson, who I thought was as straight as they come asked me to meet him under the bleachers. We met, we came, and he conquered. This week had been the greatest week of my entire life but actually. Maybe Jesse dumping me out of the closet wasn’t a bad thing.

That Friday after I was finished with practice, Kevin Wilkinson and I were walking to his car. He had offered to give me a ride home since my car was a total wreck. I, of course, agreed. I mean the guy was hot and I had heard rumors that he was going to ask me to his boyfriend. Something that I wouldn’t hesitate to say yes too.

“So I was wondering Patrick if maybe you’d like to go out sometime,” he asked as soon as we were in his car.

“Maybe,” I chuckled feeling all giddy inside that I was being asked out. Kevin sighed pulling out of the driveway of the school as he headed down the dirt road to my house. He grinned at me, a wide smile on his face.

“So you don’t want to be my boyfriend?” Kevin chuckled looking at me.

“Boyfriend? Well I,” And before I could finish my answer, Kevin screamed slamming on the brakes of his car. Who knew he was so emotionally evocative? I glanced at the window in confusion. Had it been another deer? Kevin’s car screeched to a stop as we glanced around the empty road for a minute.

“I could have sworn I saw someone,” Kevin choked out, undoing his seatbelt.

“Someone?” I said glancing around. “Well I don’t see anybody.”

“I’m not crazy,” Kevin said stepping out of the car and walking back down the road. I sighed unbuckling my seatbelt. I stepped out of the car slowly, stretching my legs. The seat had been a little close to the dashboard. I turned around as soon as I heard Kevin shout yet again. Grey had him pressed against the side of his pickup, his hands tightly around his neck. I had never seen anyone turn purple before. I thought that was only in cartoons.

“Hey!” I shouted rushing towards them. “Let him go! Grey, stop it!”

But he didn’t listen of course, one second Kevin was screaming, the next he wasn’t. Grey let him go, his body dropping to the ground motionless. I gasped in horror.

“You – You killed him,” I said trying to find a pulse on his neck. But there was none. Kevin was dead.

“Well you didn’t call me,” Grey retorted childishly. “You know how rude it is to sleep with someone and then just go gallivanting off with the next piece of meat you see.”
